But the anti-death penalty people sure say give him chance! http://thevoiddeck.org/?p=846#comments As a matter of fact, I sometimes wonder about the deterrent effect of capital punishment myself. Not that I'm really anti-DP (or really pro-DP either, for that matter), but I think that if we were to deter criminals with the DP, it has to be a *really* horrific death - e.g. death by a thousand cuts (slow-slicing) or a full hanging-drawing-quartering. Even though judicial hanging is not exactly perceived as a "soft" option like lethal injection, it's nowhere near gruesome or slow enough to function as a real deterrent. So, if we really wanted to deter with the DP, make it a horrific punishment that absolutely no-one would want to be subjected to, even if they had a death-wish. And only use it for the most violent crimes against innocents, when there's absolutely no doubt about guilt. And, in any case, deterrents will only work on those who are sane enough to consider the long-term consequences of their crime. If this killer is found insane, then he likely wouldn't have been deterred anyway, which makes the imposition of the DP a simple act of vengeance rather than a deterrent for others like him. Krado Clutched October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 to those who say our law enforcers are good for nothing , think again. Yeah... only solving big cases... small cases only give warning. Its safer to scratch someone's car then killing someone cause you can get away with only a warning then?

Its safer to scratch someone's car then killing someone cause you can get away with only a warning then? Just curious, do these warnings given out by SPF have any consequences on the receiver? After all, these people did something wrong in the first place and there should be some form of consequence?

The decision of warning or charge in court does not lie in the hands of law enforcers, they complied instructions from government lawyers.

After all, these people did something wrong in the first place and there should be some form of consequence? Warning is also some sort of punishment.Recently the punishment had been revised,so not only warning anymore, community work etc etc was added. Records will be there, any crimes commited in future, prosecution will look into his/her records to determine what kind of punishment he/she will receive next. Its a very long story with lots of factors to consider on how prosecuting a person is like.

Bro... the death sentence itself or for that matter the execution itself is just the end of it all..... the real "punishment" is actually the locked up at the "death Cell"... awaiting for that fateful day to come..... and around him, are all the "kakis" waiting for their turn...... day in and out you can hear crying/screaming........ imagine yourself in the cell.... how you feel...... it is million times worst then the hanging itself..... .... now that is the REAL punishment..... The DP is there for a purpose..... they may argue that DP did not deter people from commiting crime cause it is happening..... but did they mention that without DP..... the crime commited will be HIGHER???...... Stooky 6th Gear January 29, 2017 Share January 29, 2017 (edited) Mother and four-year-old daughter found dead in Woodlands flat on Chinese New Year; husband arrested SINGAPORE - A woman, 39, and her four-year-old daughter were found dead in the bedroom of their flat on the first day of Chinese New Year (Jan 28). Police received a call at 6.35pm requesting for assistance at a sixth-floor unit at Block 619, Woodlands Drive 52. The mother, believed to be Madam Choong Pei Shan, and child were pronounced dead around 7pm by paramedics on scene. A 41-year-old man, believed to be the woman's husband Teo Ghim Heng, was detained and arrested at the flat in connection with the case. When The Straits Times arrived at the scene, there was an acrid burning smell in the air and police were looking in the rubbish collection point for evidence. While the cause of the duo's death is not known, it is believed to be related to the burning smell. A neighbour who lives a few units down said the couple, who moved into the unit about five years ago, mostly kept to themselves. A transport supervisor, 47, who wanted to known only as Mr Mie, said that he had noticed the smell of burning plastic when he left the house at about 7am on that morning. "At first, I thought people were burning things for Chinese New Year, but when I returned in the evening around 5pm the smell was still there." Mr Mie said the man worked in the property industry and was reserved. The woman, who was a housewife, was friendlier and would often smile whenever he greeted the family. Mr Mie last saw her on Monday or Tuesday morning hanging clothes outside their home. He said he only realised that something was wrong on Saturday (Jan 28) evening when he heard a noises in the corridor and saw Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers outside the unit. "It was very quiet before that, no shouting, no screaming," he added. The SCDF sent one fire engine, one red rhino, one ambulance and a support vehicle to the scene. Many got married because it's the norm. Many have children because it's the norm. Not because they wanted it. Ironically, the pressure of being the norm causes so many dysfunctional families. I say don't bother about the norm. Just be a decent person. Or else the ultimate victims are always the kids. RIP.
