Woodlands murder suspect nabbed

SINGAPORE: A man, believed to be involved in the murder of a woman next to a basketball court in Woodlands in September, has been arrested.

 

Police said the 20-year-old Chinese Singaporean was arrested at about 6pm on Thursday.

 

The suspect, a full-time national serviceman, is also believed to be linked to the attack on a woman jogger in Khatib Bongsu Park Connector on 2 February.

 

In the Woodlands case, the body of 32-year-old Hoe Hong Lin was found bleeding near Block 895C, Woodlands Drive 50, on 22 September.

 

That night, Ms Hoe - a clerk and permanent resident here - was believed to have been attacked after celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with her family.

 

Her husband and 10-year-old son realised she had been stabbed only when they saw police cordoning off the area.

 

In the other case, the suspect is believed to have attacked the healthcare worker with a knife. She suffered multiple wounds on her face and the upper part of her body.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department's special section tracked down the suspect and he was handed over to the police by the Singapore Armed Forces military command on Thursday evening.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old male Chinese Singaporean, in connection to the murder of Hoe Hong Lin at Mandai Tekong Park Woodlands Drive 50 that took place on 22 September 2010 , in 3 weeks.

 

Following round-the-clock extensive investigation and ground enquiries, Police officers led by the Special Investigation Section, Criminal Investigation Department, tracked down a 20-year-old male suspect and arrested him on 14 October 2010 . Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in the Khatib Bongsu Park Connector incident on 2 February 2010 , where a female jogger was attacked.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 16 Oct 2010 Saturday for the offence of Murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.

 

Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ng Boon Gay, commended the team of officers, who worked round-the-clock to solve the case, he says,

surely, army would have assessed him and found him not to be [hur] before accepting him [sly]
