Happily1986 5th Gear October 24, 2010 Share October 24, 2010 I don't agree. We are talking about making a decent production not one that is excessively over engineered. Yes they are making profits now because of their brand name they accomplished over the years but if their sub par product were to persist, how long can they remain in the black? It takes a long time to establish a brand's goodwill and faster to destroy it. Consumers will move away.I did and i am sure many would. Your statement on scrimping on r&d because it affects the bottom line is simply myopic. Ironically r&d is vital to the bottomline as there always new cost effective ways when building a better product, given the constantly evolving technology/resources/economy. To save on r&d and new product development cost now would be suicidal in the competitive automobile market. And Toyota or any other manufacturers didn't get to where they are today by doing that. When i mean developmental costs, i don't mean R&D actually. I was referring to the expenditure outlay that is spent on coming up with a new chassis for a particular model. multiple models sharing common chassis is very common even across brands. Toyota does invests in R&D but you wont see it till maybe 6 years later after it has ran out its course in inplementation in Lexus. at the end of the day, i think a successful business strategy does not depend on superior specs alone. ↡ Advertisement

SimonTan 2nd Gear October 24, 2010 Share October 24, 2010 R&D costs? The suspensions and chassie are not much change from one model to another. I think most money are spent on the interior design!

Veryfree Clutched October 24, 2010 Share October 24, 2010 Regardless in which era and how much is the COE, Honda cars are always over-priced in sg! Funnier is, many still think Honda cars are sport cars, perhaps they may be living in the haunt of 80's. of course Kah motor would like to take advantage of such fact.
