Tinydog Clutched October 6, 2010 Share October 6, 2010 I used to drive the old vios model, been using shell petrol since day 1. Averaging ~10km/l since morning peak traffic jam quite bad. No issue on that. One fine day, I decided to try out Caltex with all the hoo haa on its techron additive. Wow, seriously not bad, for that tank, I get around 14km/l. Anyway, changed to sylphy not long after and went back to shell since the new fuel save petrol just came out. Ok, not bad, averaging 11-12 km/l. Probably because dun feel like revving engine so early. After few tanks, went back to caltex again for the temptation of the techron. Next few tanks pretty much the same, 11-12km/l. Recently, I noticed that the FC dropped to ~10km/l. Went back shell again, and immediately get back ~ 11-12km/l. Is Shell 95 superior over Caltex 95 or it's just my imagination? Although it might just be a few dollars more every month buy anyone with similar experiences? cheers. ↡ Advertisement

Tinydog Clutched October 6, 2010 Author Share October 6, 2010 Wa, got like that ah. Maybe I need to try out all to see which 1 is better for mine. Didnt use to try SPC because people always say SPC petrol add water (ok that is my ignorance). Esso not much recommendation though.

Hi tinydog, I used to drive a manual vios also using caltex 95 and getting about 16km/lL Similiarly changed to a sylphy 1.5L some months back and still on caltex 95 but currently getting about 12KM/L. Everyday still on the similiar road and daily activities. Just that the sylphy is auto as compared to the vios that a manual transmission. Another thing to take note is currently my sylphy is still on 5W50 mineral oil cause milage only about 8K. Once milage hit 10K will change to synthetic 5W40 oil FC should improve. My 2 cents worth. Friend, based on experience, you will have to try out and record for at least 6 months to tell the real difference. If you work in a cyclical industry, it is advised you try for 1 year. This is because if you try only for 1-2 months (worse if you try only for a few weeks), there are many variables that cannot be mitigated. Some people get stressed up in certain months of the year due to work deadlines etc, so they drive like constipated monsters. Others drive very leisurely when december and bonus time comes. So with that in mind, good luck in finding your favourite brand!
