Hermitage 1st Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 Am also contemplating an engine overhaul. Dunno if that includes port-and-polish? But for PnP, your engine should not be too old from what I hear. Old engines tend to have wear, and the porting process may widen gaps in the cylinder head to the point where you lose compression. Otherwise, as one other bro here mentioned, it's one of the best mods you can do. Think can get it done cheaper in Malaysia. Oh, and don't forget you'll need to re-tune after PnP, so budget that in as well.

Oh, and don't forget you'll need to re-tune after PnP, so budget that in as well. must go reputable shop that does porting as one of their "specialized" service. they do need special skills/equipment to guage how much were ported. difference in just few mm of difference size in the "hole" does crazy things to yr engine and it will be a hassle to redo it. I did mine in JB, don think the shop still around and the $3000 includes re-tune/remap of ecu and stuff. Took about 2 weeks for the thingy to be done. Mini-itx Clutched October 6, 2010 Share October 6, 2010 Its best to engage a reputable WS to do the job. If they have a flow bench to test flow the ports even better. Some actually does flow simulation of the head and manifold etc. This is because NA engines are very sensitive to intake port size. Bigger does not always mean better, too big will actually cause a drop in power as air velocity drops dramatically. Of course all these cost $$$. However, I have to warn you not to expect massive gains from it. There will be some increase but its not a heaven and earth difference. If you really want more power and keep it NA, suggest you go for stroker kit instead and even get custom pistons to increase compression to 12 or 12.5:1. Mini-itx Clutched October 6, 2010 Share October 6, 2010 Check out this link regarding how a company called MetricMechanic (They are very good with BMW engines) does up an engine. http://www.metricmechanic.com/pdfs/metric-...ine-booklet.pdf See the flow graphs and pictures of machine used. Its a very specialised job.

Accordboy 1st Gear October 6, 2010 Author Share October 6, 2010 Thks to all who came up with constructive views...i already have in mind a set of stroker kit from toda.but as what was mentioned here,I'm sceptical on this port n polish as in any irreversible damage..I go to a usual workshop which I think only specialize in supplying parts but I dun think workmanship is gd...I was recently intro to another workshop n although looks kinda rundown,I saw many rides there doing up their projects...from my observation,no sign of machine to do up p&p there..having said tat,I've not seen any dyno figures before n after,it's like taking a risk here...any kind soul can pm me workshop which can be trusted? Thks again!

Thks again! I believe few shops will actually own the machine to do P&P. They will rather bring your head to a machine shop to get the job done. http://www.umtwo.com/ You can look for this workshop. The place is not very big but he does engine rebuild and stuff and he is very skilled. His name is called Cheng Poh, just saw Sim Recommended you. He can give you some good advice as well.
