Lammy84 Neutral Newbie October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 Open pod affects the low end of all cars, not just AT. Just that tradditional AT are already inefficient in putting down power from engine to wheels as compared to MT, this lack of grunt at low end becomes even more pronounced. Also, for AT boxes without manual override, usually the gearbox auto kicks up at low RPMS unless u WOT, so you are suffering all the lag in the low end without enjoying the extra power in the higher end. Just get a boxed induction like ARC does or high flow filter replacement for the stock airbox, much better response in lower end with extra kick in higher end. Its easy to understand why open pod affects low end, imagine u using the same strength to suck on 2 straws, 1 straw has a bigger diameter then the other, which 1 would enable u to suck the water faster if u use less strength? When u just start to suck in the water, u will suck more water from the smaller straw and as you keep increasing your strength, the bigger straw will overtake the small 1 in terms of volume of water taken in. Replace urself with the engine and the water with air, same theory

Pointless. Unless you got straight through from mouth to ass. ^^

ER-3682 Twincharged October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 Agreed, after putting K&N drop in & HKS exhausts,my car low end torque is less....fuel comsumption goes up in city driving, but better pulling once the techometer hits 4k rpm.
Lammy84 Neutral Newbie October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 It's more like having an enlarged mouth without an enlarged throat and lungs. Pointless. Unless you got straight through from mouth to ass. ^^ Some cars when switch to open pod the difference can be quite large. The genesis coupe 3.8L V6 for example. A change to an open pod leads to pretty reputable gains of 15ish BHP But bread and butter car change to open pod really a waste of time :P

But when u put an open pod in yr car is it a must to change the exhaust ? Changing the air intake often belongs to a group of mods called the IHE. Intake, header and exhaust. It often goes hand in hand together with an ECU reflash. On bread and butter cars like altis, swift etc, the gains can be anywhere from 5-20% or more. Best is dont change 1 by 1, change all 3 together then do a retune. If auto, dont go open pod, get a high flow filter much better.

Intake, header, exhaust, supercharge and tune. But to do this, you gotta have some funds as back up to grease the right palms or periodical take down. NOt to mention the balls to drive around during op hours. Auto as mentioned by any bros here, works best with a high flow filter or stock filter. Can be slightly upgraded by removing the resonator and a short ram intake.
Dscheng 3rd Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 Why not u try closepod, like K&N Apollo kit, simota or bmc cda? With proper C.A.I, u won't feel sluggish pickup.

Hmm srsly i still cant figure out the diff between open pod and CAI both looks the same to me. but do they work differently?
Ladykillerz 4th Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 open pod filter is not good for AT cars, pick up will be problem. for AT cars, you need the carbon fiber open pod, see below photo.
Lammy84 Neutral Newbie October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 CAI is essentially an open pod that situated away from original position to a cooler position in the engine bay, its still an open pod by nature

The one u have depends on the opening of the thing, if the opening is the same as the diameter of the intake pipe, it wont make a difference at all in the top end, or maybe slightly better if the filter can breathe better than your stock one. Enforcer533 Neutral Newbie October 5, 2010 Author Share October 5, 2010 Hmm but if i put the simota Carbon charger. do i need to get a new exhaust ???
