Gizmo Clutched October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 I just did a thorough throttle body cleaning by a workshop. Is it normal for the idle to show more reading than usual? Previous idle is 750rpm With air con,850rpm Now after cleaning, the idle shoot to 900rpm With air con is 1000rpm ↡ Advertisement
Forte3737 5th Gear October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 i think you should ask the WS since they are the one who do the job
Mini-itx Clutched October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 It means air is leaking thru your TB. Try looking if there is any manual adjustment of throttle position (usually a screw or something).
Silver_blade Turbocharged October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 I think it is normal. It should go back to 'normal' after a few days.

Djdp Clutched October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 give ur car few days to get back to normal. ecu learning
Moredhel 2nd Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 I suggest you go back to the ws to relearn your ECU idle.
Yeobh 4th Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 Unless you rid is a high end model, you CPU do not have such relearning and data collection ability. If you disconnect yr rid battery and nothing happen that means yr rid don't come under such category.
Gizmo Clutched October 6, 2010 Author Share October 6, 2010 Now coming to 3rd day, idling improved abit, but still higher than previous. Engaging gear without stepping on acc surge more too. Didn't know ecu need to relearn after throttle body service. My car is not high end model
Kennyhwl Neutral Newbie October 6, 2010 Share October 6, 2010 Bro, did you remove the whole TB to clean or clean it while still on the engine? Is your TB using e-throttle or cable type? If cable type try checking cable tension or try adjusting the fast idle screw: If e-throttle type may need someone / ws with ODBII connect to ecu to relearn or reset the idling
Mugen85 1st Gear October 6, 2010 Share October 6, 2010 I think by 1 week should be able to be back to normal....
Yeobh 4th Gear October 10, 2010 Share October 10, 2010 The engine bay is wet and therefore the intake air is laden with moisture. Wet air is more dense therefore more oxygen resulting in better combustion.
Djdp Clutched October 24, 2010 Share October 24, 2010 ecu relearning as air flow is better now
Plim72 Neutral Newbie October 24, 2010 Share October 24, 2010 After 2 weeks and 1+ tank of petrol, rpm drops to 950-1000. May i know wat is the reason to trigger the higher rpm initially after cleaning throttle body ?? my 2 cents... actually idling is the most diffcult condition for the ecu to control due to low speed and hence longer feedback signal at TDC event. don't wish to go there so...... anyway in your case, the MAF actual and feedback data is incorrect after your thottle body cleaned. That result in lumpy idling. Luckily for you, the ecu is smart enough to self correct in a closed loop operation as it work on its airflow transfer function table based off ignition/fuel/lambda
GemLeo 1st Gear October 28, 2010 Share October 28, 2010 (edited) prolly means your TB is really dirty in the first place.. restricting a smoother air flow.. after cleaning.. the air flow has less turbulence.. the engine should be run for 5-10mins for ECU to re-learn.... how you drive afterwards also contribute to the re-learning... rpm isnt the only thing to monitor.. im sure your acceleration shd feel smoother too.. the car wun feel jerky at low accelerations.... I don't think FC will drop or anything like that.. cleaning TB is good maintenance.. :) Edited October 28, 2010 by GemLeo
Vtec78 Neutral Newbie October 28, 2010 Share October 28, 2010 i'm driving swift sport and after cleaning TB, rpm went up. what i did was let the car idle without turning aircon on for 5 - 10min rpm will start to go back to normal...depending on car model, some need to "reset" the TB by doing a num of steps. all these can be found by google
Tune2themax Neutral Newbie December 28, 2010 Share December 28, 2010 hi there Should avoid doing throttle body wash actually. It is not necessary. But in your case, your car should be back to normal in a few days!
Trex101 3rd Gear December 28, 2010 Share December 28, 2010 hi there Should avoid doing throttle body wash actually. It is not necessary. But in your case, your car should be back to normal in a few days! It's called preventive maintenance, you don't want to start panicking when your TB is too dirty/sticky that it cause your car to stall right. ↡ Advertisement
