Mini-itx Clutched October 3, 2010 Share October 3, 2010 I am previously using water wetter and tap water. Decide to change it to Motul additive and distilled water because some of my hoses seems to leak with WW. I realise than my water temp now rises to the middle point faster than using WW. Is this normal? Cause it could mean 2 things, better heat transfer or engine producing more heat (due to friction, oil pump problem?). ↡ Advertisement
Happily1986 5th Gear October 3, 2010 Share October 3, 2010 you just change radiator block right? sure the radiator not giving you problems?

Nope its working fine. It just that temp moves slightly faster to middle point than before. After that it just stays there. Thus no overheating issues of any kind. If there is no signof overheating, the difference is fine If the new coolant affects the oil pump, can be time to overhaul engine (they are isolated from each other)

Coolant does not like to be mixed. It can form sludge.
Mini-itx Clutched October 4, 2010 Author Share October 4, 2010 OK, I have checked with Motul and its nothing much. They said its supposed to allow engine to heat up faster due to better thermal transfer from the cylinders to the water. OK, sounds plausible since these additives are supposed to improve thermal transfer compared to plain water, hence improving cooling.

Wolfy3769 2nd Gear October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 as long as the temperature is not higher than ur previous level.. i think the speed it rise is not really a problem...
Kman08 3rd Gear October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 You should check water level before moving in the mornings. I had the same problem before. For some reason u need to top up water after a radiator change as well as flush after a few days IMHO

If so, its due to the air pockets in the cooling system. No choice one, need to check for a few days then water level should not drop anymore. Dreamer143 Clutched October 6, 2010 Share October 6, 2010 Check the quality of coolant, some coolants are only water with solvable color. ↡ Advertisement
