STOMPer KHS is out to get justice for her lost hours spent accompanying her child to YOG practices that the school asked parents to attend with their children. She says that the family members of the teachers received tickets to visit Universal Studios while the parents didn't.

KHS tells her story:

"I am sharing this story with you as I have already approached MOE reagrding this. The reply given was not satisfactory.

"I was a parent volunteer at my child

haha.. i think all the above la..

but these "privileges" always taken by the RC/grassroots people.. nobody can really see or can really complain..

now teachers get in the act.. even senior mgmt in stat boards abuse privileges by catering expensive lunch in office for their meetings.. all the tax money in their allocated budget must use up or their budget next year will cut..

all these happen everywhere, and now teachers join in the abuse.. what else is new?

Mind you, parent "volunteers" at schools are not that altruistic either. They "volunteer" mainly for two main reasons: one, to get their child in the school ahead of others, and two, to find out first-hand what is going on in the school for the benefit of their child, getting privileges other parents do not get, e.g. zapping exam papers from the school library for their child, and etc. etc.

All are driven by "gian perng" and kiasu nature, and yes, there are a lot of people like that everywhere out to snatch freebies.

...

"I would have expected the school to reward the parent volunteers instead. I missed the chance of spending a night with my child at Universal Studios. This would have cost us at least $120.00.

"As a public servant, teachers should not use any of these incentives and rewards to their personal advantage. ...

She actually complain that her EXPECTATIONS were not met. $120 is a hell lot of money to pay...

Hypersonic

the parent probably couldn't afford the tix to Universal Studio. best is complaint. she should try the straits times forum. more power there.

I am not siding the mother. But look at it from another perspective. Why those teachers were permitted to give the tickets to their family members in the first place. Isn't this lead to abuse of public fund. They are using "YOU AND MINE" monies ! [rifle][knife]

She probably didn't know about the perks of being a civil servant(in this case, teachers). She also did not look up the dictionary on the word "volunteering", what it actually means.

Just becos of a $120 theme park ticket she's like going all out to draw blood. This is the ugly side of some sgporeans. The greed....yucks!

Well, there's always the saying, "if you can't beat them, join them". Stomper KHS might as well go and become a teacher. Get all the perks she's missing out on. What a greedy fool.

the issue now is not on the parent...

the issue now is.... who funded the universal studio trip?

where did the fund come from?

why personnel not related to the school/YOG practice in any way got the tickets for free?

if its public funds, I'm interested to know as well.....

I think the fund comes from welfare fund or something like that sort. But this stomper also one kind, pls go dictionary.com and find out the meaning of volunteer. If someone volunteer for money, then it's not volunteer. Volunteer is with or without rewards, they will go on. Apparently volunteer with ulterior motive.

Mmm....it makes me thinking,

a) the tickets for the family members of the teachers, are these paid by the schools or from YOG?

b) if from YOG, was it left to the school to decide who get these tickets or was there a specific intruction who should get?

c) if the mother was given 1, will she complain that YOG did not give it to her husband and other children, if any, and they could not spend a wonderful family day? [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

this parent has a valid point... not that she didnt get the ticket but rather

why were teachers' family members given the ticket?

I see it from a different perspective..

the parents are volunteered coz they are there for a purpose and are the parents there as parent volunteer out of really volunteering or out for a purpose, most of us know, and most of them are there for hidden agenda. I have seen my fair share of people joining RC and NC coz their children going to school but little do they know that it take a min number of years to be in there before they are given priority.

the teachers whom are employee are there coz they have a duty and they perform it over and above their office hours, away from their family.. in pte sector's term, it's call OT. So when pte sector do OT, do they have extra meal claim, transport claim, higher bonus if the boss is good, etc?

as to students that want to be there or ask to be there, it's a story meant for another thread to +1.
