Mini-itx Clutched September 30, 2010 Share September 30, 2010 I am facing a problem with my car. My suspension is cheapo hotbits suspension with adjustable damper. The problem I am facing is that when I go at 160-170, the car is rather bumpy going on uneven roads. I am just afraid there could be wheel lift causing me to los control of the car. What could be the cause of this bumpiness? Could it be damper settings too soft, thus not absorbing the forces or too hard or do I need to change suspension. Btw, I didn't face this issue with a BMW E39 528i quite sometime back. Its using blistein suspension (not coilovers, just normal springs and dampers). Its quite stable even at 170-180. Of course, I do get quite a bit of body roll when cornering compared to my current Toyota. ↡ Advertisement

No, I meant that the way my car handle the bumps is alot worse compared the my E39 back then. Its jumps up and down more (as if there is no suspension), the car reacts to literaly every bump on the road, even small ones. S, I am moving around in the car quite alot and it get a little nervous. Thus I am wondering is this is usually due to hard suspension (maybe damper settings to hard or soft) and my mountings (they are urethane ones which is very hard) or is it due to faulty suspension. I checked the suspension and they are not leaking.

Main difference is that E39 suspension is alot softer compared to my Toyota.

Happily1986 5th Gear September 30, 2010 Share September 30, 2010 it is the degree of damping la which can be measured by a parameter known as the damping coefficient. your damping coefficient is probably 1 (i.e. critical damping) or more than 1 (i.e. overdamped)

They are standard 225/40/18 tyres. All 4 wheels have the same tyres.

The main issue is your coilover has much less travel than your BMW suspension, and the second issue is BMW has heavier body and stronger(thicker) suspension components that provides less flexing.
