Dear All,

Recently my fren drove in to jb, while Q ing at the custom, a P-plated cum OPC airwave in front of her move forward over a hump, i assume the accelaration not power enough or no brake apply, the car roll back and hit onto my fren's santa fe.

Sante fe no injury but airwave boot cover kanna a dent. Driver's wife came down and blame my fren tailgate them. I was like "HUH!?" Ppl Q at custom all close close behind de right? It's a backside hit frontside situation. I need some advice from all expert down here. [:/]

hello, in our TP test, we can roll back on a slope but not more than a distance of 1m.. i suppose your friend really did not keep his safety distance. only got himself to blame.

he should have expected the car to roll back when negotiating a hump..

actually i do have an experience of such before sometime back..

as i'm a newbie driver with a small manual car..

that night, small car got to carry 5 persons.. stop at a slope for those antique carpark paying machine..

of no reasons... engine stalled and roll back..

could not pull hand brake in time and brake seems to fail.

probably e-throttle car?

then hit a nissan...

the driver was panic too..

i apologized and went off immediately..

as far as i know, no significant damages and only some scratches for both rides..

guess the driver was scared that i might claim against him too.

really noob driver..

It's true that your friend is following too close behind.. though you may be close to the car in front, you are still liable if you hit the car in front of you since the safety distance in front is still important.. You must be certain of the space from your bumper to the front car so that you don't cause unncessary trouble for both you and the car in front..

1 tip: just see if the car in front rolls back when you follow them.. if they do, just give more safety distance in front of you.. anyway, if you keep too close to the car in front, it doesn't guarantee that you can prevent people from cutting your queue.. the real daring (and reckless) drivers can somehow come very close to hitting your car just to cut your queue..

Ultimately, always adopt safe driving.. a bit of delay is still alright rather than going through the hassle and trouble when you get into an accident.. [drivingcar]

But during our driving test, if you stop at a slope u should apply hand brake and move on without rolling backwards? you will be penalize/immediate failure if your vechicle roll backwards? Can someone comments on this? Thanks.

Hey bro, can't be.. If you were stepping on the foot brake, even if the engine stalls, the brakes can still work.. you just have to step quite hard since the power assistance from the engine is lost when the engine stalls..

E throttle? Doesn't make a diffence i guess.. the response is a tad slower than traditional cable operated throttles.. if you're fully clutched in, the engine should not die.. similarly when you're in neutral gear.. hand brakes isn't as grippy as foot brakes.. it takes a bit of travel on the lever to get the handbrakes to bite hard when the car is on a steep slope especially when it's fully loaded..

yes, during the driving test, you should use the handbrake to totally stop the car before moving off with the aid of the handbrakes.. you won't actually fail so easily.. there's a buffer of 30cm if i'm not mistakened.. the longer the roll back distance, the more penalty points you get.. I don't think there's an immediate failure option if you roll back a bit..

nope... you are allowed to roll back, but not more than 1m. there is no penalty at all if its less than 1 m.

1m is a lot and dangerous! Should fail these people! IMO, should be less than 1 feet (30cm).

1m is too much. I belongs to the old school of thought, i pass my driving during the old scheme, way back in 1985, if i don't remember wrongly, during my time, if your car roll back should be a immediate failure..........

nope, i did my TP test in 2003. it was rolling back not more than 1m...

hence these days, i was like WT#@$ when i am climbing slopes and the cars are like tailgating me behind of less than 1 m away.. btw, i am on MT. most of the time, i usually stay far away from cars when negotiating slopes.
