thanks so much bros for the reply.im earning about 2k in a month.staying wise,my father pay for me.therefore 2k is for my personal expenses.haha and would really get a car, cause it can save lots of my time cause im thinking to get part time degree.

btw mini itx bro,wht u mean by "get a COE car instead and 3rd party w/o fire and theft insurance" care to elaborate more bro??hehehe [:p]

and will it be ok if i buy the car under my friend name, cause insurance wise will be cheaper =)

thx again bross for the answer, really appreciate it

Pls,don't trust friend too much.Looks like you're not ready to own a car.2k hardly can survive with a car.Though it's a OPC,you've to factor in what if you accident?you got money to pay a not?Whether is it insurance under your friend,or under you, once you crash, you've to fork out 2.5k for the insurance.Even if you don't crash, those maintenance wise like tyres will easily cost you $400.Maintenance if done half a year, will cost you around $150 if you go for the better package. This exclude major servicing like service air con, change gearbox oil, change fuel pump, timing belt etc. On top of that, once you've car, you'll tends to drive more than take public transport. Your carpark in city will go up,ERP beep beep beep, cashcard one month can go to $50 or so.Trust me,once you've car, you'll go out in the night more often,by looking at your age, more or less you'll go clubbing type.By earning 2k,enough to sustain your daily lifestyle + a car mah?Unless your clothing, food and everything your father pay,2k is enough to pay with some savings.

hi bros.i really would consider myself to buy a 2ndhand car.car which im looking at is hyundai getz 1.1m which cost abt 18k for the opc yr 2006 registered car.i'll be taking the OPC scheme cause my work is shift work,so i dont really need to drive during 7am to 7pm.and other than the cost of the loan per month, what other cost should i consider monthly that can seriouly damage my wallet??like insurance??cause i dont really know how the system works here as im a foreigner.thanks so much bro for u explanation, really appreciate it =)

Do u really nid a car in the first place????

Do u need to drive around SG when you are working?

If u just need a car to drive and go back your home...

then i suggest public transport will do...

for opc

2k more than enough la...

opc insurance roadtax also much cheaper

For OPC, 2k wanna get BMW also can. The question is, is it worth it sacrificing the quality of life for a car?

Cut down clubbing/drinking/holidays/makan food quality

Of course I can't give the answer, it's a to each his own kind of situation.

But some pts another bro raise up is pretty valid, imo.

Servicings, repairs, tyre replacements and cross fingers don't kenna accident.

I've to spend 2k+ on my car repairs for a B&B 1.6 this month alone.

And I'm getting some stuff from scrapyard and 2nd hand stuff and getting my mech too fix up.

If AD...... [knife] , at least 5k+

Not be a sour grape, but there are a lot of cost to own a car. Some of the guys here have mention it.

Owning a car here in SG needs a full and long time commitment. Do rethink about your budget thoroughly before owning one. [:)]

insurance premium for OPC & normal plate are not much different, the most only 5% cheaper.

i thought foreigner to buy car in singapore must have a valid singapore driving license?

for driving expereince will count from the date that u convert your license, thus, your driving expereince is 0 year, please check with TP whether u need to put P plate or not....!

Right, the million dollar question is what is sacrificed? 2K may get you the car and with careful financial management, even allow you to keep the car. But there is not much left for anything else in the here and now, let alone savings.

thanks for the important points though.actually i dont really go clubbing or drink.it juz that for weekends,i myself juz like to sit in the car and drive around town with my gf and sis.and nice thing is that, when my parents come down to sg,i would really love to bring them around, juz ride around like sightseeng.not to say,we can even go jb or kl on a road trip.haha.my workplace is quite far actually frm my hse.i live around city,my workplace is at tuas...therefore i consider getting a car.if my workplace is nearby my house,i wouldnt even think abt cars.

opc cars i believe is not so hard to finance, cause the road tax and the price itself is nt as ex as normal car.more will be on the maintenance i think.

Erm....

1) Move to Jurong?

2) Find work in the city?

Cheap option: Bike. $200-300 a month incl fuel, parking, road tax and insurance.

In fact more economical than taking public transport.

But dangerous.
