Realized that Cina used car market offered better assurance as all AD checks are transparent and is readily available on the internet to cross reference.

we over hear are mostly at the mercy of used car dealer with their unethical practices and the garment has done little to address and to safe guard the consumers. Its both shameful and exasperating. Pui!!!!!

Yes, the dealers are required to be upfront about the condition of the car.

If it is later found to be a 事故車, or 泡水車, the buyer can sue the dealer and ask for  退一赔三.

I got Facebook video feeds of 2nd hand car dealers in China shopping for cars.

1. They would check conditions of nuts and screws to see if the panels have been touched for parts replacement.

2.  Some would use a small paint thickness meter/analyzer  to go over the car body to see which part of the car had been heavily repainted.

Has anyone used this paint analyzer?  If it is cheap and effective, I may be interested to buy one to go over my 11year car to see which parts had been repaired/repainted by ex-owners.

Coating thickness gauge? Yes I bought one and it saved me once.

When seller said the car had no accident at all, I simply put it against the panel and showed him the high readings. Lucky he didn't send me out maybe because I told him A pillars look good, or just because I was being polite - by telling him I will consider a new car instesd.

Note that it only works on matel (not bumpers). And dont buy cheap ones.

agreed. the best part - they have 3rd party assessor/evaluator that can come to you. just book one to help check on spot. they even bring OBD to read the mileage record in transmission, if available.

Previously posted in Japan talk but haven't got any advice. Hope I am not breaking any rules by repeating my post here.

Hi all, noob here. Have been looking at honda shuttle the last month and hope can get your views. Sorry but I couldn't start a fresh topic (cos i am noob zero power. Haha.). Never owned a car before as well.

Which would be a better option for me?

- 2nd hand shuttle hybrid registered in 2019 (sgcarnart shows prices ard 82k+)

- new shuttle petrol which I think the price is around 95k?

I am also really confused with the many trims of this model. X, G, Led, keyless etc.

My travel would be ard 54km per day. And for personal usage not phv. This car is also a fit for me cos i like the boot space and for ard this price i dun see many other offerings that interest me (ie i dun like prius and sienta).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Just based on this, to me its a no-brainer to buy new.

Annual depreciation for new, at around 95k is 9 to 9+k, while the 2 year old one at around 82k would be .. 9+ to 10k?

Thanks for the reply. So even though not like to like comparison (hybrid vs petrol), "value of money" should look at depreciation/yr.

Some PI models are for Japan market and so its based on Japan variant. Maybe even have more equipment than local AD model.

Local AD always ask factory to take out all the equipment to pay less tax!

:D

I am PI, I  bias but it's true!

The first thing u need to ask is if you need the hybrid. Given your daily mileage is not really low, the hybrid might save some money esp with the crazy petrol price now.

2nd is the maintenance for the hybrid might be higher after 5 years. If you are okay with that, go for the hybrid. I think the savings from the fuel will be beneficial.

Oh. More reading required.

Wasn't aware hybrid maintenance costs higher after 5 years. :x

Hybrid cars are more likely to be ex PHV cars with the mileage tampered with. The 15,000km/year mileage may actually be 40,000km/year for example. So do set aside a nice war chest for wear and tear related costs and possibly hybrid battery replacement.

Estimate how much petrol price will increase and see if you can break even on the higher cost of the hybrid based on your daily mileage...
