Jchuacl Clutched September 26, 2010 Share September 26, 2010 Just switched to the new AD08 after clocking up 40k on my RE-11. The tyres are slightly narrower as compared to Bridgestone tyres for the same tyre size. The scrub in mileage is approximately 400-500km before I can feel the ultimate bite coming in. For my tyre size, the tyre is about 3 pounds lighter per tyre and it was quite apparently as the pick up is required responsive and the rear tyres feel less heavy during cornering. In terms of grip, I can't really tell the difference between AD08 and RE-11 but certainly the difference in weight does make the car feel more nimble especially the turn in response. ↡ Advertisement

Jchuacl Clutched September 26, 2010 Author Share September 26, 2010 I'vent drove in very wet conditions yet. For the light rain conditions which I've been through so far, the tyres are pretty stable with sweeping bends (CTE-SLE) or those 270 degree bends on outer edge. It certainly felt better in the wet as compared to AD07. pls give us a review on wet surface... preferably high speed corners thanks

Astrochucky Neutral Newbie September 27, 2010 Share September 27, 2010 Yo bro, how do you rate the AD08 against RE-11 and other high performance tyre you have used? Greatly appreciate your feedback as i am looking to change my 225/40/18 RE070 soon. I am considering RE-11, RE070, AD08 and S001, in descending order of preference. I thought of Michelin PS3 too, but the tread design makes me wonder if PS3 will be to PS2 as what SO3 was to SO2, poor successor to a legendary tyre... Btw, kindy pm the price and shop you get your AD08. RE11 and AD08 should cost about the same, right?

Jchuacl Clutched September 27, 2010 Author Share September 27, 2010 It is still too early to rate as I only clocked 1k so far. Initial feel is about the same level of grip as re11. Unless u want better wet weather grip , otherwise re070 is the best bet in the dry. Forget about ps tyre unless u want more comfort as the sidewall for both ps tyres is too soft for my liking. I would suggest u try re11 first as the tyre characteristic is about the same except that the sidewall for re070 is stiffer. re11 cost a little more than ad08. I got my tyre at southeast. For pricing , best to call them as I get good price from them as I am a long time customer . Yo bro, how do you rate the AD08 against RE-11 and other high performance tyre you have used? Jchuacl Clutched September 27, 2010 Author Share September 27, 2010 For ad07, the tyre is very good when new but after 20k, the degrade is quite fast and apparent in the wet. It is too early to tell how good is the tyre until I run the full cycle. As of now, the grip is sufficient for me. I can easily take at least 100km/h comfortably in my euro r but it may not be the same for all cars. when i first got my car.... it came with AD07.... when raining.... not those heavy type.... those that makes the floor slippery only.... damn scary sia...... i need to drive to kuantan about twice a year.... and wet is most important.... mind telling me at what speed do you travel those sweeping bends? thanks
Astrochucky Neutral Newbie September 28, 2010 Share September 28, 2010 (edited) hey bro, thanks for your sharing. i actually dont track, so i wonder if i am overkilling with the RE-11, RE070 and AD08, when perhaps a tyre like RE001 will do. I was quoted $220/pc for a parallel import RE001 ($290 for agent with warranty) while those 3 are $340-$380. $220 for a PI RE001 sounds like a great bargain, but i wonder what the catch is, except it is without warranty. i really love the dry cornering abilities of the RE070 (and i can live with the harshness and noise), but being greedy, i would like some better wet performance as well, as RE070 really cant handle deep standing water, esp when its worn. i was prepared to sacrifice some handling for wet performance and go with the GY F1A until i realised it has cracked sidewall issue, so i dont dare to commit. Any advice since you seemed to have used plenty of performance tyre? Sorry for OT. Edited September 28, 2010 by Astrochucky
Zuoom 1st Gear September 28, 2010 Share September 28, 2010 i dun think there's any tyre when worn will be great on deep standing water. almost any fresh V shape design, wide groove tyres will fare better than any worn good dry weather thread tyres. there's alway a compromise. bias to dry tyres wouldn't fare super well in the wet. and bias to wet weather tyres similar wouldn't fare great in the dry. it really depends on what you are looking at. also, other matters like tyre pressure, camber, toe and the all important suspension play a very important interlinked relations. Jchuacl Clutched September 28, 2010 Author Share September 28, 2010 There is no harm having more grip as it may be a life saver when u least expect it, with the only damage to the pocket. I ever did an e brake on a bend from 80 to 0 as there was a plant pruning lorry parked at lane 1 at a blind spot without any warning cones. That was the one and only time I managed to make the re11 tyres squeal under hard braking and it was a life saver. If cost is not a concern, then u should go for re11 for better wet weather grip . Otherwise u can consider s001 or re001. It shouldn't take too long to get the hang of grip as it is the same family of potenza tyres. For ad08, I am still learning as it is almost 5 yrs ago when I used a non bs tyre ( ad07). Somehow, the wet weather strength of s02 has never been regained for the last 10 years of newer generations of potenza tyres and its a real pity. hey bro, thanks for your sharing. i actually dont track, so i wonder if i am overkilling with the RE-11, RE070 and AD08, when perhaps a tyre like RE001 will do. C32b Neutral Newbie September 30, 2010 Share September 30, 2010 I am on 17inch AD08. My previous comparison is to RT615. AD08 has firmer sidewalls and so far has great traction in the dry. I would easily say it beats the RT615 even though the feeling the 615 gives makes one believe the 615 is stickier. I know this as the speeds that I take certain corners has improved and the cornering grip is consistent without any breakaway. Braking is very confidence inspiring. When I changed to a harder suspension, I could feel that the tyre grip matched well with the harder suspension. Feedback through the steering is responsive but not overly deafening. Some level of refinement is still available with this tyre. Will update more when the tyre is tracked.
Jchuacl Clutched December 14, 2010 Author Share December 14, 2010 Already clocked 10k and rotated the tyres . So far my wear has been even and not excessive. However I heard from the tyre shop that other pple are experiencing uneven wear, though I did not probe further into the type of cars that were using the tyres. Grip has been quite consistent and progressive , though the noise levels seem to be slowly creeping up. I did noticed that the tyres heat up a little faster than re 11 when the tyres are cold. Porker Turbocharged April 20, 2011 Share April 20, 2011 (edited) Good choice of tires. Had them on my previous car and the grip is amazing although noise may be of a little concern. Am running CSC3 OEM fitted now... First impression is that the Conti's' are not as sticky as the AD08 but definitely quieter. In summary, I think the AD08 is a great max performance tire. Good in the dry but a little tricky in the wet. Next up is P Zero Edited April 20, 2011 by Porker
Jchuacl Clutched May 15, 2011 Author Share May 15, 2011 Now already clocked 30k on the tyres and the grip is still pretty decent in both the wet and dry though there is an irritating whining sound which I initially thought it was wheel bearing issue when cruising on highway. Wear is still pretty even though I'm wearing off the edges of my right tyres more than my left due to the fact that I travel on roads with more left bends than right bends. I should be changing to a new set of tyres when I clock 40k, and might stay with this tyre again.
Gary84 1st Gear May 20, 2011 Share May 20, 2011 oh wells....my current AD08 is due for change soon...travelled almost 37000km on these tyres (alot of hard driving) and i must say they really served me well....Only complaint i have is probably the grip during the wet... I'm contemplating in switching over to R1R or RT-615.....i might even stick to AD08 if the reviews abt the other 2 arent tat good.... Bros, anyone has experience with these tyres? care to share.....tks! ↡ Advertisement
