haha oops... i found my answer at wiki

The Ford C1 platform (for "Compact-class") is Ford's global compact car automobile platform. It replaces Ford C170 platform. The C1 platform debuted with the European Ford Focus C-Max compact MPV in early 2004. The platform is designed for either front- or all wheel drive.

The C platform was designed in the Ford development center at Europe Cologne, Germany, as the "C Technologies Program" and is based on Ford C170 platform (front and rear-subframes and geometry etc.). Thirty engineers each from Ford, Mazda, and Volvo worked to combine the compact car engineering for all three automakers under the direction of Ford Director of C Technologies Derrick Kuzak, Ford of Europe vice president of product development.[1]

The C1 platform has been stretched creating the EUCD for use in future Volvo vehicles.[citation needed] Volvo's plans call for all of their cars to be C1, EUCD, or D3-based in the coming years.[citation needed]

Among all of the cars, the floorpan is different, but the front- and rear-subframes, suspension, steering, braking, safety, and electrical components are shared.[citation needed]

u got your answer

the difference in platform is evident when u look at conti vs jap vans for example

conti vans are build on their car platforms, while japan vans are based on cheaper and simplier platforms for vans

this will affect their handling and performance

some jap cars are build on van chassis, eg suzuki apv

Plaform is the superstructure where suspension, wheels, brakes are attached underslung; and where assemblies such as engine, body shell, doors, seats, are installed on top of it.

does that mean that the skeletal dimensions (e.g. wheelbase) of s40, mz3, focus are exactly the same?
