what will happen if the shock already have cracking sound and still driving it? my car has a year to scrap

You can choose to replace the shocks but again for one year driving seems a bit redundant. Might as well leave it unless you are renewing it otherwise buy used replacement car.

AD is cutthroat, i did mine outside for 500 for 4 while AD quoted me 2500. Shocking. My WS knows i know market and quoted me a reasonable all in price.

I did mine at AD workshop for peace of minnd. Cost $535 including gst for front and rear and comes with warranty. My car is 5+ yrs and 160k mileage. AD recommended the change though I got not issue with suspension. But I took the recommendation thinking that sooner or later I need to change and might as well do now for it to last till scrap.

That is a very reasonable price for an AD. Mind sharing which AD ?

If you intend to drive your car till scrap, then it is better to change it now so that you can fully utilize the parts. :D

Hey guys,

Hoping to gather some advice. Bought a Hyundai Sonata 2.0A NF (2006) recently. Millage is about about 85,000 KM.

It's a good ride but one thing I notice is that the car is a bit "bouncy". Apologies if I'm not very clear, but that's the best word I can think of to describe it.

Here's what I observed:-

1. When the car is parked, I did a downward push on the front right corner and release it. From what I can observe the car, the car spring up in a back and forth motion then settle itself (imagine a wavy sort of way, like when you press down and release on a waterbed... yes a waterbed, but of course the car 'bounces' at a faster pace).

2. When I do a right turn (or left turn), the car will slant to the left (or slant right, as the case may be) (which is generally expected but it is just a bit tad too much from what I have experienced with other cars before) (FYI, I occasionally drive a Nissan Sunny or a BMW 3 series, both belonging to my relatives and I don't quite recall I experience the same wavering feel) (Just to be clear, I am aware I should not be comparing the quality of the drive between with these 3 cars as that would not be fair).

Trying to do some reading and research online before I head to a workshop. So, here are my questions I hope fellow members with much more experience than I could help out:-

1. Are these tell tale signs to replace the car shock absorbers or suspension systems of the Sonata?

2. If answer to 1 is yes, any recommendations for a workshop (preferable in the West, i.e. Clementi, Jurong East area) for Hyundai Sonata (Please, no joke about sending it it to ComfortDelgro) (Any suggestions for workshops in other parts of Singapore is highly appreciated too)

3. Side track away a little form the main questions - What I ought to be looking to service for a car with 85,000km millage?

Any suggestions / comments would be of great help!

1st Gear

If tyre pressure is correct, sound like shock absorber leaked.

Dont do every thing at one go.

Most immediate is normal servicing.

Others check first. If it ain't droken, dont fix or replace.

85k km is about normal to change shocks.

Chk price incl labour n front mounting n front n rear stoppers at AD then either get similar quote fm reliable ws or if u buy all parts yrself n get ws to install.

U can also chk difference in price fr original n oem parts.

U cn make yr decision fm there.

Remember to do a 4 wheel computerised alignment after u change shocks cos yr alignment wil b out fr sure.

If u got good lobang in jb it sud b abt 40-50% cheaper fr e whole job incl alignment.

Other stuff at this mileage sud b timing belt n waterpump n coolant. Brake pads n brake fluid. Powersteering fluid. Auto transmission fluid. Battery.

U dun need to do all at 1 go. A bit at a time wun hurt yr wallet so much n give mech chance to do it slowly n not rush him to get all done at one go.

Wow! 40-50% cheaper is definitely worth serious consideration to service the car across the border.

Now... if only I have the lobang. Anyone?!?

I'm thinking of sizing up my rims to 17" or 18" (currently stock is 16") at a later stage. Would that matter? Do rims and shocks together?

By the way... AD stands for? (Sorry quite new here).

Ah... I sort of figured it out... AD = Auto Dealer. Right? [laugh]

It's Authorised Dealer, the agent whom u purchase the new car from.

Hi bros,

I'm driving a 08 Honda Fit GF, went to pasir gudang with fren and came back with a wobbly car so went to WS and check.

Mechanic say my kan tong jam and recommend a change: front $480 back $400.

was wondering if it is reasonable because my buddy kept asking me to change to a coilover so that next time got resale value?

Hi guys, need some help. I changed my drive shaft last week, and after that I've noticed that my front suspension doesn't seem to be working properly. When I go up and down humps, even at very low speeds, the impact is terrible hard, especially on going down. I tried pressing down on the front of the car and it can't be depressed, unlike the rear part which can, and will bounce back up.

I spoke over the phone with the workshop that changed the drive shaft, and they told me that it might be the shock absorbers that gave way after the car was jacked up and lowered, and told me to return to let them have a look.

I just wanted to ask you guys if what the workshop said is possible. Or could it be possible that in installing the drive shaft, something to do with the suspension was not attached properly? I don't want to be faced with a situation where I'm left with no choice but to change the shock absorbers even if there might be nothing wrong with it.

Thanks for the help.

(my mileage is only 50k, but its a 7 year old car)

Hi

I took my car for servicing today with the dealer. It's a 6 year old bios with 70k mileage. They are saying, the shock abs need to be changed as it is " leaky" and the costs for front and back is $1800.. Is it reasonable ? Btw i dont feel unconfirtable in driving this car and so concerned to pay this much...

1.8k for 4 absorbers... I think you can buy 8 and still have spare change.

Vios ?

Generally, a saloon car standard shocks range about $100+ per pc for front and <$100 per pc for back.

Labour range from $80~ $200 depending on whose knife is sharper.

So the quote should be about $600~$800

Dealer double the price on who's willing to pay.
