Who owns an IPAD

i have the 16gb wifi only. after considering all options for several months and reviews from friends, decided the 16gb is the best for my needs.

For me, why 3G is pointless cos i don't take such a big item outside to surf. If on the go, i'll use my iphone to surf. In terms of data storage, i won't be taking lots of photos and videos with me. I use mainly iwork apps (like ms office), so 16gb is more than enough. i load about 1gb of songs for listening pleasure when i need. But point is, it's not something i still use much on the go.

i reckon those who really need more storage are those with plenty of videos and pics to bring on the go. If you need to surf for videos, the reality is 3G just isn't a great option. So no matter what, it's questionable whether 3G is really necessary.

As for storage, let's face another fact. The ipad just isn't a great storage tool as it cannot read thumbdrives or sd cards of any file formats. It's restricted to certain video and pic formats. So the better option if you need all that video and photos on the go is the Macbook Air. At 64gb base model, you're getting just as much storage for the vids and pics plus every other file format, and most importantly, u get a full OS. And if u really need 3G, u can subscribe to mobile surfing.

The Air is also on Flash drive so you can leave it on standby like the ipad for as long as 30 days. that means booting up is instant. A more usable keyboard and USB ports are a bonus too and all this for just $200 more, actually $100 more if u throw in education discount which ipad don't have.

My take is the Air is still a better mobile device if you need serious computing on the go. Ipad serves a very restricted purpose and in this case, i feel it's quite pointless to get 3G and large storage.

Creative is launching something similar.Price below $500..i think.

After the novelty has died down, the price of such gadget will drop.

Thinking of getting a cheap IPAD wannabe for basic web browsing.

Any cheap alternative to recommend? I am tired of bringing my netbook around and also getting impatient over the waiting time to boot up a laptop, just to do some basic internet surfing.

If you read news it's good to get. If not relatively same as iPhone although its interface is more interactive.

Well I have a 32 gb wifi only iPad. I'm now down to only 6 gb left. So, I'd say get a larger capacity one if you are buying one now. As for wifi or 3G, my adivse is... Go for wifi only. For the $200 price difference, get yourself a mifi.

No 3G is not a problem for me. I saved the $200 and bought a Huawei E585 mifi to go along with the iPad. This Huawei mifi can pair up to 5 devices (I use it for my iPad, my son's iPod touch and laptop for my wife when we are outside), with max download speed of 7.2mbps and upload at 5.8mbps max.

Another good thing about using mifi is, I can do facetime when I'm on the go when pairing it with my iPhone 4 cause the phone detected it as wifi.

I do not need to use multiple sim, just StarHub's free unlimited 1 mbps sim card that comes with the USB mobile broadband which comes with max online express plan.

Using the mifi is so convenient and easy, I strongly recommend anyone who bought wifi ipads or MacBook Air who needs mobile Internet to get it.

Challenger is selling Huawei E5II, which is exactly the same as E585 (oem for 3 mobile), but at $299.

How long could a fully-charged battery last on the Ipad?

Depends on what your usage of the ipad.

If just standby mode, up to 2.5days.

If you planning to watch movies/videos after video online,

maybe 4hrs?

If you planning to play games using wifi/3g,

maybe 7hrs straight.

you do your own judgement. [:)]
