Thinking of getting a cheap IPAD wannabe for basic web browsing.

 

Any cheap alternative to recommend? I am tired of bringing my netbook around and also getting impatient over the waiting time to boot up a laptop, just to do some basic internet surfing.

Many $599 laptop selling now. Good for surfing net.

The trick is NOT to install useless software and use the hibernate mode! U will get instant on/off speed just like ipad.

I got mine from Challenger after booking 1 week earlier. Now son is playing with it.

Guess its mostly a novelty. Actually its just a bigger Itouch and most of the software it uses r itouch resolution, which means its pixellated but I guess later they will port/upgrade the software but No facetime. Some people instal in their cars...search at youtube for ideas. I think mainly to surf or read ebooks. It was designed to ouster Amazon's Kindle.

My 3 years old kid owns a 3G 64GB Ipad, a gift from my wife specially got it from US when launched.

After using it for a while, find that it is more convenient than usual net book and laptop.

For serious, still must use laptop or desk top

I am using Office2HD for my spreadsheets - confirm that it works with both Word and Excel

 

Separately, I am also using Pages - more sophisticated in terms of formating for Word documents
