I can't confirm but I drive a Front wheel drive GS model, which for the rest of better perfomance and bigger cc usually use better brake disc and pads. It is safe and reliable especially driving fast and need to brake and slow down fast at the same rate due to traffic. The problem is that this brake pads wear off faster (mine release a screeching noise gradually getting louder and louder closing to 20,000 km and eventually need to get them change. Except for the screeching noise, I still find the brakes responding well enough although not so effective compared to new ones. Previously when I drive a camry, I only replace the pads after around 30,000 km though. I guess wear and tear factor really depend on how the car perform to the driver's condition especially high performance car which may wear out faster but perform better than normal brake pads.

Most performance pads will produce more brake dust and squeal (ever now and then). Just gotta get used to it. They do brake a lot better comparing to standard ones though. At the end of the day, if you dont need that kinda performance, dont bother. Depends on your driving style.

Bendix General CT, cost less than $50 for a pair of front brake pads. Not sure if available for Optra.

Bro.

Can share where to buy General CT for $50? I was quoted $120 with install.

pray.......

seriously though first thing is dont panic,

if you hit the brakes and theres nothing/little, keep pumping brakes, gently apply the handbrake (with finger on ratchet so it doesnt lock) keep car in gear maybe turn engine off, foot off the clutch, depending on how fast and of its life or death you can start looking for things to rub wheel against (kurb) or something to slow your speed to drive through (bushes, small trees, signposts, houses, gardens) - (depending on if its life or death) Key thing is as soon as you realise you have a problem start looking for a safe place to crash/slow down while your working on the problem

not always true.

racing pads are designed to operate at higher temps than OEM pads.

That means at cold (non racing, normal road) temps they usually perform worse than OEM pads. You need to heat them up first. Once they are hot they last and perform better then OEM road pads would AT THAT TEMP

IF you use race pads in your road car you need to be aware that until they warm up your braking power isnt as good as stock pads.

For 99% of road drivers using racing pads in their road cars will result in less safe situations........ There is a reason car mnfs dont supply their cars with race pads fitted.......

Hi all,

Just curious since I am still inexperience in all these.

On Singapore roads given that my ride is front and back brake disc, just how often are the brake pads changed.

Cause I realized that driving on local road uses the brakes a lot due to constant traffic light stoppages, though I understand that how often it is changed depends on individual driving style, so hope everyone can share your experience with me so i have a rough idea.

Thanks

you shd know how to see wearing and change when its time.
