How often brake pads are changed for Singapore roads

Some discs are warped and had to be replaced because the drivers use aftermarket brake pads which grip the discs or rotors better. Better brake performance. But the more they grip the rotors/discs, the more they use up the rotors/discs.

With my limited experience. Most of the warped discs is caused by heat. Either the heat range is exceeded or cooled down too fast.

Worn discs are because of wear and tear till the rotors become too thin.

Ya u might b right.

I hv only used original or OEM pads n never had problems with the discs. My pads also last about 4 years(70K-80K km).

Stock combination is a good compromise between performance and wear. But aftermarket systems, are more effective, and the price to pay is worn rotors and pads. Unless, like our friend say, use your foot to stop like Flintstone.

Ceramic got for normal road use?

What make/model fr Optra? R they more ex than OEM pads?

Bendix General CT, cost less than $50 for a pair of front brake pads. Not sure if available for Optra.

depends on how u drive, some use engine brake then slowly press brake until car stop, like driving VIP in the car (BTW i dont like these drivers, take soooooo long to stop, forcing everybody to slow down behind him). Other will brake closer to the stationary car, almost jamming brake at the end, like so scared ppl cut in front of them.

anyway at each servicing, if the tech say need to change, better change (ofcourse not every 10,000km). So far i change mine after 40000km when the tech told me its worn off. A few time brakes saved me (including being impaled by a steel rod hanging out of a truck, which i cannot see cause it was dark) so better dont play play.

My colleague car think already 6 year old, but her brake pad still have not changed even once! [shocked]

she must be a good driver, or hardly use it.

a road car shouldnt need pads often - unless the driver is bad and thinks hes michael schumacher

New (surfaced) disc cracked during qualifying....we drilled out the end of the crack and used it for the race (we forgot to bring the spares)

lasted the 6hr race and we managed 5th place so lucky! Not recommended to do this on a road car obviously!

check out these pads.....they were new racing pads. this is what they looked like after 16hrs into one of our endurance races

The pads were down to the metal (the one on the right has no pad left at all, just bare metal) and they got so hot the pads bent and the caliper piston actually melted into the back of the pads. you can see the circular impression in the back of the pad

They still worked - kinda- and likley were the reason I demolished an integra on one corner when i found i couldnt quite slow enough not to hit him. :)

dont try this at home :)

Unless your friend is not wearing shoes, he/she will be wearing the sole of their shoes too! I think that 1 more exp.

ps: I brake using my foot on my BMX when I was younger!

You mean your car 5 year old with 136K milleage and did not change brake pad at all? [shocked]

It depends on usage, tyres and what's the criteria changing the brake pads (for eg <=30 %, <=40% or <= 50%).

My rear brake pads lasted me 120k with 50% worn but I decided to change out anyway.

For front pads, my 1st of mugen pads lasted me 100k while my 2nd set lasted me 65k. I suspect the shorter lifespan of the 2nd set was due my disk rotors wearing out, and afor as a result, the pads had to work harder. Changed to the current set together with a new set of slotted rotors, will monitor to see how long my new set of pads will last.

And this is for a car with 220bhp with stock calipers.
