Starcombat Neutral Newbie April 3, 2011 Share April 3, 2011 I am currently on Bendix Metal King but find it very noisy and so am looking at other brands. Looking at Project Mu but wondering whether worth the $$$ partly because the shop I went to did not have Bestop and they quoted me the 400 deg cel NS type. Is the difference (braking performance & noise wise) worth the $$$? ↡ Advertisement
Breadandwater April 4, 2011 Share April 4, 2011 There is a wide variation of how often. One car, the front lasted less than 20k km. Another car, much, much longer. I braked much more before which is why it only lasted 20k km. Also the brake pad material is different now.
Stephen73 Clutched April 6, 2011 Share April 6, 2011 Hi guys, I drive a toyota harrier. Please add me to the list. I just sent my car for servicing at star auto in ubi. They told me that my front brake disc and brake pad are worn and need to change. A new set for both front brake disc and pad will cost 670 excuding gst. I am a motoring noob. Please advise if it is too ex and whether I can get it done cheaper elsewhere. Thanks a million.
Kilatz 1st Gear April 6, 2011 Share April 6, 2011 Most pads can last quite a while... but when your brake feels weaker and needs more push to stop, just change. For those who needs hundreds of dollars to change, its because your parts are expensive. Also, some workshop charge jialat jialat because new customer dunno the actual cost ma. Find out how much your brake pads costs by searching online, then add a reasonable amount for labor charge, that should be the costs. If much higher, then its just to cut your throat. Remember, more expensive doesn't always mean better.

Is the difference (braking performance & noise wise) worth the $$$? Braking performance is better than stock definitely.
Pisces69 6th Gear April 9, 2011 Share April 9, 2011 Do consider brake pads with ceramic material in them. Just google "brake pad, metallic vs ceramic" to read about the different characteristic of pad material. I think if you looking at minimium brake dusts, you should be looking at ceramic material brake pads. Ceramic got for normal road use? What make/model fr Optra? R they more ex than OEM pads? Many ws wil tell u need to change cos ty want to earn some extra $$$ from u. Get a 2nd opinion from a trusted n reliable ws 1st. Most of the time just change pads is enough. Discs can usually last the life of yr car.

Every single time when doing servicing, i'll ask the mechanic whether need to change brake pad or not. 3 years and 80+k km and still asking. Every time say no need. But But But.........i did get the brake disc change 1 year ago tho. Is the brake disc suppose to wear off faster than the brake pad ?????
