That's part of the main attractions. You might want to do more research and compare with what other tour agencies are offering, like what hotels you will be staying, what other attractions(other dan those main ones) you might want to visit.

If you can speak mandarin, going Taipei free and easy is e best. it is not difficult to find your way ard by public transport, and u get to decide where u want to go, Hw long u want to stay at each place etc. But it might be a bit more ex than e everything included package tour.

I joined ctc for a hokkaido trip yrs back, it was so-so, no major complaints.

I'm one who always goes free and easy; if the key agenda is food, I strongly suggest going F&E for countries like taiwan. Why pay for catered food when you can pay for what you choose to eat?

Any other good travel agency to approach? Am thinking of going taiwan in nov too actually.. hmm..

My last trip to Taiwan in 2008 was with Focal Travel. It was also a 7-day all round Taiwan tour. All three meals were covered most of the days. The important thing was the tour guide over there was great n pretty knowledgeable.

Sad thing is also some places they brought us to were not much of interest to me. Basically the deer products shop, some kind of fengshui jewellry shop, pearl shop and marble factory. The rest of the places were great.

If you want to F & E for the whole of Taiwan, it is not possible because the other remote places are not accessible by public transport, especially on the eastern side of Taiwan. But if you just want to visit the various city in Taiwan, go ahead and do F & E cos it is the most economical. Travelling in the high speed rail cuts down the travelling time between cities. Can go from Taipei to Tai zhong to Tainan to Khaoshiung.

For Taiwan, it is very easy to navigate the city. I've been there twice on my own with 2 young kids. The people are very helpful and the MRT is very convenient. Stay at a hotel which is near the MRT and you can access almost everywhere. Food is cheap and good... the roadside shops are filled with yummy foods. Go in Dec... nice cool weather [:p]

That's one of the main reason I avoid guided tour.. The guide always uses our precious tour time to earn more sales commission by buying useless local product. I rather use the time to visit more places or stay longer at the place if interest.

Yalor.

Taiwan and places like BKK and HK are easy to move around in MRT/ BTS/ MTR; should go F&E.

For Taiwan, its different. If you want to visit the mountains, gorges, tunnels, sea sides, old railway, etc.... w/o guided tour, it is impossible.

But if you just want to go to the city n travel within the city, then F & E will do.

Within that 7 days, I seen a lot of Taiwan that I didnt know existed. Like the fisherman harbour at the north of Taiwan, Eight immortals islands, sand sculpture by nature, aquarium in a nuclear tunnel, hot spring, nice mountain gorges with emeral blue water, caves with temples built within facing the pacific ocean, etc........

Information is readily available on the internet. If want to save trouble to know places of interest, can always go tour agency take their brochure. Then see what places you want to go. For hard to reach places, can look for local tour agency there, online.

I hate to join tour group, at places of interest they keep rushing. Faster take some pics then go to other attractions. Then at those tourist shops, they take their own sweet time to introduce products I'm not interested at all, give all the time in the world to shop.

And for food, I prefer to search for I want rather then eat what they give me. Again, information is available online. Internet is a great tool.
