Hi guys,

Anyone of you out there successfully argued and got back compensation from inconsiderate lorry or van drivers who slam their doors on your cars?

Today in Vivocity, my car and another car, one lot away, got paint chips and deep scratches becoz of an inconsiderate lorry driver and his passenger who parked in-between us. Got evidence and his license plate with my video camera, but how can we track him down for repair costs? Or should me and the other poor driver (the one with more deep scratches than mine), just hit our heads on the wall for being so "lucky"...

Buy 4D also not so "heng"... The other side of my car fender was seriously dented by another lorry door some time ago, that time no video camera to take evidence... Now have, but not sure if got use or not...

I must go pray more to gods and start buying lottery already.... [dead]

If your video clearly shows what happened and/or there is independent witness, I think you stand a good chance of making good the claim. Do act quickly if you want to pursue, especially for the police and accident reports because these must be made within 24 hrs.

Otherwise it's probably not worth the effort, because worst case it becomes a civil lawsuit against the culprit, which will cost much more money, effort and time for everyone involved.

Having been the victim of a carpark hit-and-run by lorry slightly more than a month ago, I'm still apprehensive everytime I park and hold my breath everytime I approach my ride. As long as I see it still in one piece I'm thankful and heave a sigh of relief!

I simply cannot understand why people need to swing their vehicle door so hard. A light knock will not create a scratch or even dent. To me there is no point arguing with such people or thinking of 101 ways to exact revenge. Just get it repaired if you cannot accept the appearance and move on, maybe invent new technologies to solve the problem instead.

Sometimes I wished I had a smart AI car like Kitt in knight rider, or could drive an armoured tank [laugh]

Such incidents are inevitable in densely populated SG.

Since it is on the door, the lorry driver can claim that both of you parked too close to the left and right side of your individual parking lot. Hence, any claim may end up 50/50. In the end, only ws and insurance cos. are the winners while the rest of the motoring public are the losers as a result of ever increasing premiums.

Hence, 'tis best for vehicles to be a slave to the owners than the other way round.

Just my 2 cents.

Have a nice day [sunny]

I disagree with this statement. The reason why such things happen is because of "3rd world" mentality in some of the people here. Disregard of things that is not theirs, hence many of these incidents involve commerial vehicles as the ride wasn't theirs in the first place.

When I parked my car, I always make sure their is enough room between car & adjecent cars, even at the inconvience of myself. I have on occasions exit/enter on pessenger side due to tight areas & pillar. If I really can't squeeze enough room, I would rather park further. I have never parked in lots labored for parents with kids, happicap or elderly, even if the car park pretty mucg empty for the convience of a few metres. Ok, mainly because I hate dents on my car, but at the same time, I respect the other driver to be the same & hence always that extra care when I open my door.

I don't think I am alone on this, while I understand somethimes we can't do much about others, but at least me can lead by example for ourselve & remind the people around us, like our pessengers, kids.

Cheers.

I feel for you... I must thank those pickups and trucks in Tuas for my dings and scratches on my car...

Nothing much they can do even if you submit to the authorities about it...

It is not only in Sg that dings, dents, scratches appeared because of parking.

US, Japan, HK, Taiwan, Malaysia.... so on will have tight parking space in urban area.

It is true that some of the culprits are lorry drivers.

But there are also very possible "attackers"

1) Fellow drivers or parents putting or carrying baby out of baby or child seat. They need a lot of space.

2) Children opening door. Some of the just rush to car and open door wide.

3) Shopping trolleys-- This is a scratcher if they push between 2 parked cars and there is contact.

Run away trolley using car as bump stop.

I tried to choose and park within so call less risk lots. But dings and dents form doors are unavoidable.

Learn to live with it.

You're not alone [wave] I follow the same mindset and practise as well and I'm sure quite a few others do, judging from the way they park. Only exception would be if I need to park outside the lot, then I would rather park elsewhere.

Even though I'm extra careful when opening my door, sometimes accidents do happen and the door springs further out itself (usually due to sloping ground). But from my experience a light knock like this has never created any scratches or even dents, no harm done!

He mentioned lorry parked between the two cars (lorry parked into the vacant lot later)

yeah... both my car and the other victim's car was parked besides a small chevy car when i left the parking lot. Found out what happened only when i got back to my car... Got his license plate on my video camera, blue "GN9715E" with a big ISUZU in front.

Workshop quoted $150 for repair... Should i file a claim against him or just bite the bullet? [dead]

This type of thing very hard to avoid. You cant blame the driver, sometimes the kids will also open the door and bang into yours, what can you do?

If you happen to witness the incident...

then 'do to others, what others do unto you'...

FAIR ENOUGH, IMO [;)]

Kitt Knight Rider???

can....

you go create one yourself lor....

alternatively,

there's the Taxi.... [laugh]

Can! But only scaled model car.. Real one not affordable or even possible yet :D

Maybe for a start there will be futuristic car doors with a protective layer of electro-activated shape memory polymers.

Jokes aside, anyone knows if TS decided to try claiming, can he still drop the claim later on if it is going no where? If I'm not wrong this would be handled as a 3rd party accident claim and only progress into civil lawsuit if the other party dispute plus police investigation has no outcome.

imho Damage not too serious so just take it as po4 cai2 xiao1 zai1 (lose money to avert disaster) and move on. If the other driver still wishes to claim then you could consider joining in.

I myself make sure I don damage other ppls car when I open door.

I always make it a point to note down what car parked beside mine, key in hp the number plate then overwrite it e next time.

If anything happen I make sure they will pay back 10 times [rifle][knife] the damage unless I never see that car again in my life...

civil claim is too long and tedious to create damage to those bas#%*d.

Prejudice against others who own cars? Those may not be the culprit. But you can be a culprit
