Very obvious pedestrian was jay walking. In the eyes of the law, drivers must at all times keep proper look out for pedestrians, hence drivers always lose case when involved pedestrian.

But, if accident proved fatal to pedestrian, it is pedestrian's fault for jay walking at the first place. So who paid a higher price at the end? Answer is obvious.

I agree that for big vehicle there are too many blind spots..

 

The point is that some passerby already knock/gesture to him that he has hit someone. First reaction for all human kind is to come down and take a look what happened. How on earth he would know who he had hit(man/lady/children) when relating the incident back to OCC!!!! So u can see at that split moment his intention was trying to cover his own ass ignoring the fact he has already hit SOMEONE!

 

Then I think you need a reality check...

 

There's a X6 driver in China who backed into a boy recently - he then ran over the boy 3 more times to make sure that the boy is dead before walking away from his vehicle...

I encounter a couple of times youngster/student with their eyes glued to their hp/mp3 player, ears stuffed with the earpiece and just cross the road w/o realising they are crossing a road.
