I am currently letting go of a set that I ordered through parkingidiot's 2nd MO for in-car cameras. The following is what I ordered:

F900HD x 1 set, with the following accessories:

car mount x 1 pc

car charger and long usb cable x 1 set

wide angle len x 1 pc

After more than a month of waiting, it should be arriving by next week with confirmation of DHL Express tracking number. PM me for more details if you are interested.

recommendation and what to watch out for, please [:p]

So far from what i see.. the F900HD and F500HD are the most value for money. Otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it through the MO. I have replied your PM liao.

Two important questions you must answer 1st:

1. Do you need survellance or just drive recorder?

2. Do you drive mostly in the day or at night?

if you need survellance, then you should be looking at another type of system with DVR and multiple mini cam, not simple in car video recorders.

imho, alot of the in-car recorders, including F500/900HD don't perform well at night. Try to search for sample night videos and you'll get what I mean. Video is usually grainly and poor in resolution. My standard headlights often blank out the lic. plate when shining directly at them.

That aside, I would suggest the following things to consider:

1. Built-in screen for setup and preview (not a must, but very inconvenient without)

2. Loop/cycled recording with minimal gap (at most 1sec) between clips

3. Auto-start recording and shut-down

4. Temperature rating (must be able to survive hot noon sun)

5. Wide angle (at least 120 deg, otherwise it only captures a limit area in front)

6. Auto date/time stamp

7. Photo mode (function as camera if necessary)

8. Hi-res recording (at least 1280 x 720 for better clarity)

9. Sensor type (eg. HD720P uses global sensor, which will not produce the rolling effect due to large movements, but this isn't a big issue)

The following features are good to have, but you'll need to pay extra for them:

1. Inconspicious design / small form factor

2. GPS location tracking

3. Shock sensor, auto-extension of video

4. Special features like motion detection recording

Most probably to add in:

SMS or email driver or any preloaded number on alert.

Activate car alarm or pre-recorded caution or warnings to intruders.

relock the car and jam central lock during break in.

Not joking, there are already in the CCTV standards.

I tried using iPhone 4 before. Quality is amazing both day & nite. Only problem is angle is not wide but its decent enough.

If u wanna save money can consider this.

you can get an add on wide angle lens.. jelly lens are about $2, but quality isnt so good... there are 0.67x wide angles ones that sells ard 10+ and give rather good quality for the money...
