Cost cutting - Reduce to one pilot

We have one bus/coach driver, one train driver, etc.

So one pilot should be ok lah! Last time fly plane got many checks and instruments to worry about, now all easy to check and control by one person.

A low-cost airline wants flight attendants to fly airplanes in case of emergency. The reason: Having two pilots in the cockpit is too expensive. That's great, because I really can't wait to see Steven Slater landing a 747 at JFK.

The father of the idea is none other than Michael O'Leary, the CEO of Ryanair, the most famous low-cost airline in Europe. O'Leary does a lot of seemingly stupid things, but he's a very smart man too. In this case, he may be completely right too.

Authorities and aircraft manufacturers are actually looking into this. Embraer is planning to have a one-pilot-only commercial jetliner by 2020, and General Electric and Lockheed Martin are actively working in incorporating remote control capabilities

i mean,

why not???

afterall, the purpose of all the computers onboard the plane is to make flying easier and safer....

what for still hire that 2 same pilots compared to the 1970's???

plane companies spend so much energy and resources to engineer such technologies,

and as an airliner, you're still hiring 2 pilots???

Lol....

what a good way to cut costs, these pilots always like to create trouble and goes on strike.

anyway, i would definitely not sit on a plane with single pilot, if the pilot have a sudden heart attack, the whole plane goes down with it.

unlike a driver traveling on road, the car would just roll and crash to a stop, this is a plane we are talking about, there's too much risk factors involved.

the only plane with a single pilot can only applies for war planes.

You don't really need a pilot for normal flying since most of the flying is done by computers these days. BUT when $hi t hits the fan and something does go wrong, then no amount of technology can replace an experience pilot at the cockpit. That's when you really need a pilot. Take a look at some of the recent incidences like the crash in russia, the BA crash at Heathrow, etc. Those are instances where the computer went wrong and it was up to the skills of the pilots to ensure minimal loss of lives.

the ultimate is,

train the Air-Steward in handling difficult conditions,

but ultimately,

sack 1 pilot,

but pay the Air-Steward/ Air-Stewardess a little more....

but it's still effectively half the salary of a pilot....

haha....

but how often does it happen???

and really,

most of the crash are actually caused by pilots themselves and not the computer....

When it does happen and you're one of the passengers, i'm sure you'll pay any amount of money for a pilot to be at the cockpit.

Learmount even goes further and imagines no-pilot planes, fully automated and supervised from the ground by real pilots. But forget about that not-so-remote future. The question now is: Are you ready for one-pilot airplanes?

The correct question should be:

Are you ready for a pilotless air travel?

For me its a definite no-no. I demand my pilot so that if he crashes, he dies.

i'll be willing to die,

taking control of the air-craft....

cos seriously,

i don't see the need for pilot 99% of the time....

in fact,

that 1% is when the pilot actually knows what he's doing....

if you wanna die, you can die somewhere else...there are many others on the plane who do not wanna die with you...especially knowing that you are not the pilot and you are taking control of the aircraft...

it seems more like you have a "hate" thing against the pilots rather than being pro pilot-less travel...

got rejected in pilot interview? many times?

haha...school starting tml...
