Wind30 Turbocharged September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 I live in the north in YCK area. I think the roads in singapore is not that bad and we can support more vehicles. The only problems are the expressways, namely CTE and PIE. I think if they bothered to build the N-S expressway announced in 2008, it would solve a lot of problems as the traffic from woodlands and AMK gets routed into another expressway away from CTE. Having another NS expressway will remove the Jam at the PIE CTE junction as there is another way towards the city. The problem is that the government just collect money from CTE ERP for soo many years but never did anything, until recently. ↡ Advertisement
SimonTan 2nd Gear September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 The ERP should be extended widely and more expensively to support the 0-1.5% car growth. Its obviously a half-hearted effort on LTA for the ERP island wide implementation. I wonder what is the real reason why they did not go all with as many ERP gantries islandwide and higher charges? Something is not right after so many years of ERP, and yet we still see the same number of ERP gnatries. The way I look at it, the jams are still there during morning and evening peak periods. Put it this way. Now, the people in the north is suffering with CTE and need a new expressway badly. If govt add 1 more expressway, it solved the transport issue for the people there. And the property price will go up. But then, where is the money coming from to build expressway? From everyone from north south east and west. I am staying in the East and I will complain, and not happy with my MP for not doing enough for the folks in the east. So, any mega infrastructure development must benefit the majority of the people. Or at least, set priority and visibility, like the DTL1, 2 and 3.

Tigerwoods Turbocharged September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 To control Vehicular growth : 1. COE growth 1% = Current Popn 1000k = 10k cars. 2. next yr growth only 10k vs 1010k 3. next also 10k Vs 1020k So simple but what happen few years ago ? Who the genius increase COE like toilet paper / Frankly I totally suppork ZERO growth. Just whack more MRT stations extend to JB and Batam lah. 5936 1st Gear September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 The knife cuts both ways. I would want to say it is true that LTA had released too much COE over they past few years. The roads are over crowded. But , it will affect car prices in the long run, when COE supply strink to curb growth.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 make taking public transport really a cheap way to get around (50cents a trip).... and driving really expensive..... then people will think twice about taking public transport and giving up their cars.... now, the convenience of cars is worth it's extra paid compared to taking public transport.... more so if you have a family with children in tow.... Ghostami 2nd Gear September 12, 2010 Share September 12, 2010 I think let the car growth be more, that is the best solution. Everyone will be sick and tired of stuck in Jams... Let the jam situation worsen and more will ditch their car rather than get stuck for an hour or 2 at the highway.

Ghostami 2nd Gear September 12, 2010 Share September 12, 2010 Yeah, think with all those it will deter most people from driving. Think their partner will also ask buy car for what to be stuck in jam for so long everytime go out.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 12, 2010 Share September 12, 2010 people will still drive nia.... cos car is status symbol, and nothing beats having personal transport....
Ghostami 2nd Gear September 12, 2010 Share September 12, 2010 Not when you need to be stuck at traffic jam of 3 hours everyday when you can easily take bus home within an hour. All these must come together with the existing erp system and such. Sometimes, it such measures that can really deter people rather than restrict car population. How many would wanna jam for 3 hours just to get to work and also to get back home?? That is like 6 hours wasted on jams.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 12, 2010 Share September 12, 2010 but truth of the matter is, when that day comes, 3hr car traffic jam will result in countless number of waiting for trains to pass by, before one that is boardable....
Ghostami 2nd Gear September 12, 2010 Share September 12, 2010 I doubt so with the amount of new lines that are being put in place. It will divert the train crowd much more better.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 12, 2010 Share September 12, 2010 but still, some stations just cannot shake off the crowds.... especially in city areas and interchange.... ↡ Advertisement
