Latka 1st Gear September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 Instead of reducing the COE quota & making it more expensive to own a car. They should just increase the min. downpayment to 30% & reduce the max. loan period to 5 yrs. This will be a better way to prevent people from over-borrowing. The last thing the Government want to see is with high COE prices like $100K, the B&B car is selling for $150K & people can't afford to buy car will use their vote to show their unhappiness. When dey removed the 70% rule, dey were helping d banks back then which weren't doing too well. If dey were to re-introduce this rule, banks jia sai. In dis small island, the banks and the oil companies are very well protected as can be seen dat dey are immune to so called anti-competition law. Albeniz Turbocharged September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 PRs who don't convert to citizen will not have their PRship renewed... If this were true, many PRs will no longer stay in this country. Before they leave, many will have to sell their cars and the road will be less congested. This will bring down the COE price.
Tigerwoods Turbocharged September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 I totally support ZERO Growth for Passenger Cars, now, if possible. We have really limited land space to build more roads, widen them. The problem is why increase so many COEs the last few years and say sori wrong estimation and then now say ZERO growth ? This is another one of those REACTIVE issues that I see very often these days. Frankly its so easy to control the car population since 1990. Money gets in the way of decision making. Its not difficult to solve the Crunch in MRT. The leaked MRT future map we see circulating around is the answer to all our problems. More MRT Stations = spreading out the commuters more evenly as they can have more choices to choose their train route home. with more MRT stations, you also distribute the population better. If that map actually materialise, heck, I'll sell my car and take the train. My requests : a. Pls, build a total MRT network to cover every town, estate, kampong, also JB and Batam. b. for every completion in adding the MRT stations, reduce the COE qty progressively. c. When the MRT stations reaches a coverage of 80% of our island, ZERO Car growth. d. When full MRT completion - start reducing Vehicles. Add buses, and commercial vehicles. e. During such times, construct Bicylce lanes, reduce COE for petrol/diesel vehilces, replace with COEs for Hybird or green/Solarpower ones.
Vulcann 6th Gear September 9, 2010 Author Share September 9, 2010 One suggestion has been for public transport operators to offer fare discounts for travel during off-peak hours, as this is likely to tackle the problem of overcrowding in trains. Dr Lim Wee Kiak said that with discounts, more people would consider spreading out their travel. "So there would be spaces for everyone," he said. This clown Lim Wee Kiak, come from where? Spread out travel? Can go to work suka-suka during off-peak period, to "spread out travel"? The boss, will spread out your pants and give you a kick in the butt out of the office, if you don't come to work on time. "Spread out travel... yeah, right... Ask this fella go to Jurong East MRT every morning and spread out their travel with discounts and see how easy it is before tokking kok and trying to act smart. Bro PI, Hehe your "interesting" reaction similar to mine. Was telling my CO just now how nice we could just call my boss and say," hey boss ah, today they say mrt 10.30am then no crowd so i come 11 plus hor." Chinablue Clutched September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 ERP ERP doesn't help much in curbing increasing new car ownership. ERP generally is moving a problem from here to another place and so on, by building ERP on everyone of them in succession until the whole island got full coverage. The only effective thing is COE. this, i admit is one of the most successful invention from our MIWs.
Ladykillerz 4th Gear September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 (edited) actually if you observed carefully, during peak hour in highways, there are more big vehicles than cars. big vehicles like lorries, vans, trucks, etc. and one big vehicle can easily occupied 1.5 to 2 times of the road length usage. our govt should instead think of more ways to counter such traffic congestion. big vehicles are meant for goods transportation and is there really a need to travel during peak hours? i think this measure is more reasonable.
