Cars with COE Expired Should Bid for New COE!

Don't you think this is a better way to really reduce car population than to let them pay PQP. Right now. All cars with COE expired can just pay PQP to get COE. Don't need to bid. Just pay and you get COE.

To help further reduce car population, don't you think owners should bid for COE just like new cars instead? This way, the no. of cars registered will never exceed the COE limit set.

Beside PQP, they also need to forgo their Parf rebate & their road tax will be progressively increase to 150%.

Yup, agreed. Just like current COE cars.

They are essentially "Bidding" for a new COE based on the PQP except they dun need to bid.

Please remember if they need to renew COE based on PQP. Their "quota" is not considered released back for bidding.

If like u said they suppose to "Bid" for a new coe. Den their quota will go back to the system. LPPL.

I think u give this suggestion cos u assume that even if they renew COE their car is considered de-registered and goes back into the quota for bidding which is not the case.

I don't agree with your points, those cars going for 2nd COE are already part of the car population. They should not go for bidding. The way to reduce car population is to reduce COE quota and increase road area.

The number of cars registered can never exceed the CoE limit for two reasons

1) The CoE quota already takes into account the number of cars de-registered, and

2) If say the lowest bid has more than one person and lesser CoE's, then all those who bid at that amount will not get their CoE, and the unused CoE's will go into the quota for the next bid session.
