Thanks bro, much appreciated, I'll give them a call and have them make a quote, too expensive, will have to DIY, presently both my cats here, I don't mesh up the windows, and only one looks out the window, and when I tell him to be careful, seemingly he understands. He sits on the table and admire the view. I'm only worried when my kitten comes in...main gate will have to mesh up for sure, new to the place, my other two older ones will not even bother to step past the front door.

Well....I'm engineer by training so have the play-safe mindset lah... and I did loose (and find back) one of my cats before so I'd made it a point to never risk that happening again ....

And I see how excited they get when they see/hear birds on the ledge so .... one time investment for the peace mind ... ok with me :D

We did explore the idea of putting some netting or wire mesh on the window grill but it looks kinda ugly. Since the incident, we do not shut the windows entirely, we will leave some small gaps enough for air to come through.

My friend's cat was not so lucky. Fell from his 8th floor condo about a year back. Brought to the vet and was given an all clear. After 2 weeks, the cat just collapsed and died. Didn't really probe further as he was taking it a bit too hard.... [:(]

I think age and weight of the cat does play a part recovering from such incidents. Younger and lighter cats would have a higher rate of survival as compared to older and heavier cats.

Once my stupid phone is back from the service centre, I will snap a pic of my "invisible mesh" to show you. Should work for you as I had the same concern as you about it looking ugly.

Actually Scoot's solution is good also. As the screen is professionally custom made and the holes are small, it can practically become "invisible" though it may also reduce the amount of light filtering into your home.

I have that kia-si mindset when it comes to them. Sometimes they do lose their mind when birds start flying outside or when they are perched on some near structure.

The one-time investment is really worth it.

Yeah bro, that is true also, will call them and let them quote me, they have these screens in Taiwan and Japan, sort of all homes will have them, cos of the insects.

Mine will be a few places, kids room, study room and hall, cos present two will sleep in my boy's bed, and sit on bed to watch little birdies.

The new one coming in will be a big one, and should will be able to reach the window with no difficulty. Closing the window like Greatodin mentioned, my case buay sai, these two know how to use paws to open the sliding doors and windows one. Bad things will teach the new one damn fast.

[laugh]

Yup, should invest in some form of "mesh" for peace of mind. No need to mesh up all the windows, just those that are always open when you are home.

My bedroom window is not meshed but they have no access to it when I am not home. If they are in the room, I actually have a small towel hanging on the grille to block part of their view while shutting half of the sliding window shut. The thin towel still let in any breeze. Anyway, my bed is their perfect snoozing place. They do nothing but zzz there.

btw, have you guys seen your cats' little birdies? [laugh] small small thin thin and pink pink. [:p] My male cat's one is hidden almost all the time. Only when he is grooming himself there will we see it. I have had him for 6+ years and I have only seen it < 10x. [:p]

I think it boils down to costs. My cats practically run about everywhere in the flat. Which means all bedrooms, living room, kitchen and balcony would have to be meshed up. If its too high a cost, then the cheaper stop gap alternative would be to shut the windows.....

I will for sure look into this, the two present ones are no issue, it's the little one coming that bothers me, being that he's going to be far bigger.

None of my cats, DARE to climb up my bed. They know who the big cat is. [laugh]

I don't know where mine learn this from, but tall glass sliding door, small little gap for air, and the fellows can use their paws, push and push, then charbot out form the balcony. Unless I close it shut, no gap, they sure can escape from Alcatraz. [laugh] [laugh]

My cats only know how to use their paws or heads to push open doors that are not shut properly. Lucky, they have not learn to apply the techniques to windows..... :D

their kkj is there, even after neutering, just that they keep it hidden unlike dogs let theirs hang out for all to see. [:p] you can only see it when they sit down, spread open their legs to groom their belly area. if your cat is a furry cat like MO's, will be difficult to spot. But if your cat is like mine, which has little fur, then will be more easy to spot.

during the neutering op, the vet will remove whatever is inside the scrotum sac and leave the sac intact. that's why their sac seems very flat after the op. Because inside bo liao anymore.

do you guys know why female cats like lionesses, let out a loud angry yell when the male cat withdraws after procreation? because when he pulls out, his kkj actually has raised spikes coming out and the spikes rubbing against the pussy is damn painful. apparently this pain stimulates the female cat to increase the chances of making little kitties.

Luckily for our human ladies, our kkj not so sophisticated. No wonder Singapore's birth rate is declining. [laugh]

One of mine also can. The BSH look-alike.

Luckily she is not strong to open all sliding doors. She will open, then peep peep and go off. Then the rest will go explore the opening, creating havoc.
