Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 6, 2010 Author Share September 6, 2010 i think why PI never bring in this model is because BM block Toyota Thailand/ Malaysia to prevent any other dealers to bring in the car to Singapore.... it's really hard to not have the Avanza in our local market leah.... a 1.5L MPV....that doesn't look like the Sienta.... ↡ Advertisement
Alant 1st Gear September 6, 2010 Share September 6, 2010 i'm comparing the Avanza with the Sienta and Freed in mind..... considering the Avanza 1.5 has a better look overall, which is easier to stomach compared to the Freed/ Sienta, BM is shooting itself in the foot for not bringing in these 2 models- Avanza and Innova.... IMO, the Honda Freed look nicer.
Benarsenal Turbocharged September 6, 2010 Share September 6, 2010 if that's the case, why do we have the APV and Proton Exora here??? Because Suzuki and Proton image is different here in SG? Toyota probably thinks that it is not in the 'budget' market in SG anymore. Aside from the Vios, most of their products are for the slightly upper-class middle income families and above. They don't compete with Proton and Suzuki those brands anymore.
GoodCar 4th Gear September 6, 2010 Share September 6, 2010 Toyota Innova is a fuel drinker. Avanza I heard was it did not pass safety requirement of LTA Anyone can verify?
Vivienshoshanna Clutched September 7, 2010 Share September 7, 2010 Hi, i've been wondering, why isn't the above 2 models, the Toyota Innova and Avanza available through official distributors??? these 2 models have been selling really well in Asean Countries, except for the lack of availability in Singapore.... the Avanza makes the most sense since it's like the Sienta, having a 1.5L engine, but doesn't feel like driving a huge MPV around.... and it's in our CAT A category.... so why isn't it sold here??? can anyone advise??? hhhmmm. nice question,

Jetabout777 1st Gear September 7, 2010 Share September 7, 2010 liddat, means we can only have First World cars??? not making any sense here leah.... Why not making any sense? There is a market for everything. If Toyota doesn't want to position itself in that level which competes with Proton or whatever lower-tier cars in Singapore, who are you to say otherwise? Btw, TMAP is the one holding the key to whatever cars BM are distributing. IMHO, I think the Avanza/Innova are real crap in terms of fittings and design. At least Honda Freed is perceived to be more upscale despite being assembled in Indonesia.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 7, 2010 Author Share September 7, 2010 if it's crap, it won't be selling like hot cakes in countries all around us....
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 7, 2010 Author Share September 7, 2010 there aren't many mini-MPV's in our market.... the Exora is considered mid-sized MPV already (it's slightly bigger than the Wish/ Stream already leah).... and for a 1.6L, it's considered mid-sized..... Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 7, 2010 Author Share September 7, 2010 still.... we've a market for CAT A MPV's.... and if only the Wish/ Stream didn't exist....
Ben5266 Supercharged September 7, 2010 Share September 7, 2010 if it's crap, it won't be selling like hot cakes in countries all around us.... It is a Liteace. A van fitted with seats. The suspension is not as good as passenger car. Wish, Stream, Freed and Livina are based on car suspension. Avanza and Innova are based on van. They are selling below Vios price. Because it is cheap and practical, many people buy. Singapore might not pass LTA regulation, or need to stick the 70km only at the back. But why Toyota can sell so cheap or the cost is so low? I am not sure.
Jetabout777 1st Gear September 7, 2010 Share September 7, 2010 (edited) still.... we've a market for CAT A MPV's.... and if only the Wish/ Stream didn't exist.... Good point with the CAT A MPVs. I guess Toyota is lacking a model in that market. However, just my personal view, I don't think Avanza or Innova will fit the bill. Simply because it doesnt match the positioning that Toyota has in Singapore. Edited September 7, 2010 by Jetabout777
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 7, 2010 Author Share September 7, 2010 BM can jolly well sell the Avanza at current Vios prices.... don't have to bother about marketing this car.... there's a demand for such car.... better bring it to Singapore.... ↡ Advertisement
