Get a PS3. Its the best Bluray player on the market....way ahead of the other players. Think of it as a complete home entertainment system with the following essential Bluray features;

a) It has wireless connection to Internet;

b) With a) above it has Bluray life, a feature that allows realtime downloads on extras for bluray movies

c) It has firmware updates so u can install latest new features

d) It has Web-browser with Youtube, face book etc

d) It plays all-region DVDs and upscales these to 1080p (pls note it does not support Region 1 DVDs)

f) It has wireless link to your PC and Laptop to allow direct playback of movies and pics/albums and songs from your PC/Laptop

g) It has Optical-out so u can connect it to your 5.1 or 7.1 home theater sound system

h) It is an awesome gaming console that provides FREE online gaming.

i) It has the fastest 2009 load times for bluray.

j) It plays and stores all your songs, movies, albums, pics

k) U can even load Linux or an OS on its resident Hard-disk

l) It is a supercomputer for the home with a fast processor

No other bluray player offers the above features at such affordable price. IMHO it was the PS3 that killed the HD-DVD product.

U buy a PS3 and u know u have a player that will remain uptodate for at least another3 years easily.

nighwind.. if you are into PS3 gaming... you can join our MCF PS3 kakis.... the thread is all about PS3 (2)

i dont have time to game anymore...i use PS3 now more as bluray and dvd player. Last month i installed a firmware update and lost access to all my games.. :(

RR7, Assasins Creed, Ninja Gaiden....NONE OF MY GAMES WORK NOW...so i am quite pissed with sony for the firmware update...the same the same thing happened to my buddy.

I am considering doing an HDD format and restore factory settings and hope that corrects the problem. But that also means i lose all my saved games.

I am trying to look for a patch to fix this before i resort to the above....any comments from any bros will be much appreciated.......

Actually all the best blu ray players are from sony, afterall they own this technology.

so a ps3 does make sense.

the thing about blu ray players are really the loading time.

oh and you need to update it, kinda like using adobe reader.

else you might not be able to view the latest blu ray movies.

Id just get a standalone bluray drive for laptop that goes for about 150-200.

Then buy the software i like as not really into ps3.

Supercharged

Sorry need to dig out an old thread....

My 3 year old Samsung DVD player "died" suddenly....

I rent movies in DVD format to watch, so should I buy a new DVD player or a Blu-Ray player (as this is the new technology) to replace it?

This player selling $99 at Giant....can buy? [:)]

Blu-Ray.

Is backward compatible right?

May need to crack the region code thingy . . . let's hear what the rest has to say first.
