Hi,

would like to seek clarification if this is true.

was told that LTA will fine $200 and deduce 6 points regardless you are right or wrong as long you are involved in an accident, it will be imposed...

1 mth back, i was involved in a taxi accident whereby i was hit by a taxi at the rear while waiting for the opposite traffic to clear before i could make a right turn to the carpark.

Ambulance and TP were involved..

I yet to receive any such letter from them but was rather disgusted to hear there's actually such onerous crap around..

i don't understand, being the victim yet must being penalized..

i still kena summon 6points $200...

biker may get fined and demerit pts if they get in accident. failure to control vehicle resulting in accident. usually for self skids or skids on rainy days which cause an accident. Maybe your biker friend suay the other guy report him as skid and bang his vehicle hence he get fined/pts. Thats why alot of riders self skid sometimes dun want other pple to call ambulance else tp will come and give pts and summon!! leg/hand face bleeding faster zar bo on the mangled bike.

Maybe a new ploy from TP to make sure nobody dare to report accident..... otherwise, irregardless of right or wrong, kena 6 points and $200 fine.

Then, the public will drive safely, ... if really accident involved, settle among those involved.... TP will be free from all these mess. Insurance companies have better days ahead, collecting high premium with no claims.

Well, my sis in law was hit from behind by a lorry so bad, her whole car spun around hit a lamp post, hospitalized.... and she was fine $200 + 6 demerit points. Of course she appeal.... but still waiting for reply from TP.

So, everyone, please watch your back (tailgate) and i watch mine.... let's not hit each other and enrich the home team.

i've gotten into several accidents during my earlier years of driving and have never gotten a fine or demerit points. Having said that, if you look at the DIPS link I've provided, there is no mention of demerit points/fines associated with causing an accident.

However, if your other actions, eg: reckless driving, speeding, crossing double white lines etc which is listed as an offence is a prelude to the accident, then of course you will be penalised. So in essence, the accident doesn't constitute an offence, it's the very action leading to it that will determine if it is an offence or not.

Since your friend received a letter from TP, it would clearly state what his offence were. If not, he needs to clarify with the IO.

under Road traffic act, park means to bring a vehicle to a stop and cause it to wait for any purpose other than the immediate taking up of goods person or luggages. by stopping along the road to check your directory, if according to the law you have committed an offence. since it's 120 and 6 points, i believe it's either single yellow zigzag or double yellow zigzag?

Neutral Newbie

usually the fine and demerit points applies to bikers when self skidded. i know cuz i was a rider. but if they implement this for cars, many ppl gonna get their license suspended. maybe its their way to reduce congestions.
