Tianmo Hypersonic August 22, 2010 Share August 22, 2010 Think your friend just wack and never bother to send for checks and also change engine oil frequently. The more you rev, the faster the EO degrades hence the need to actually change EO much quicker rather than to wait till 10k than change. That is just the basics, got other stuff also need to take care too. could be also, don't know if he takes care of the car, or even know how to take care of the car. I did drove his car before, weak like F@#K. Guess main thing is know how to take care. ↡ Advertisement
E-Jazz Neutral Newbie August 22, 2010 Author Share August 22, 2010 and don't ever hamtam the car hard from start. many years back, my friend had a honda accord, drove at 130km-140km/h from jurong to changi on the 1st day he collected the car, and everyday drive like that, in less than 2 year, I think a 1000cc swift can over take him anytime.......... he was like [bigcry] Wow, thats kinda bad. But I also heard that current Swift are quite powerful for a car of its category. But I didn't go for it because I went for 4 factors: 1. fuel consumption savings (I know Jazz may not be the best, but its one of the good ones) 2. Head space and front windscreen factor (I don't like to have to look over the dash board, and even after increasing the chair height ends up with little head space i.e Honda City has this factor that I did not like personally) 3. Lots of room space for storing big/long objects. I know cars like City or Civic is large, when I see how the back boot space of Jazz can extend towards the back seat to even front seat of the car internal area, I fell for it instantly. 4. Short exterior front and no backside. (I never liked driving cars and having to estimate the length and back of the car against another car on the road or during parking. I am a Lazy driver in that sense haha.) And since I am not a speedster these days, I just want a smooth ride safe and sound. My friends did suggest suzuki, tempting but just not for me in this time of my age haha. Thanks for sharing your friend's experience I believe in hard run in . From the day I gotten my hands on my car, I just use per normal but I change my EO at 200km, 500km, 1000km than 2000km. I normally rev my engine around 3 -4krpm on my normal usage and so far after 4 years its still strong and powerful as it was just out of the factory. Only thing I did differently was that I change my eo every 5k rather than 10k. Mine is a manual car so rev till that range is quite controllable for normal driving. Hi Ghostami, Interesting, I also read about the weather (cold) as a factor for engine oil lately. Given that cold start and how the temperature causes water in the components therefore engine oil change interval varies. At the end of that article, it mention to judge and not follow the distance factor. Thanks for sharing.
Ghostami 2nd Gear August 22, 2010 Share August 22, 2010 With good maintenance, a car can go beyond the coe age without much problem. I firmly believe in that, I spend quite alot on that as well.

E-Jazz Neutral Newbie August 22, 2010 Author Share August 22, 2010 Honda Jazz, 16" I think is upgraded liao, check the brand and model and check who carry those tires and call them to check for correct pressure. Yea. Currently they have 2 types in the showroom. LA model LX model Both are 1.3 (A) The only difference is: LA model - 14 or 15 inch rim, can't recall exactly which but its one of it. - Locally fitted radio (meaning 1 year warranty only for the radio). - Rims local rims "normal" 14 or 15 inch, can't recall which is it. - The seats if you want leather will require additional SGD$700.00 - Doesn't have boot tray. - Colour choice when I went only left c.blue (which is the super bright blue) LX model - 16 inch sports rim. - Japan factory fitted radio (meaning to say 5 years warranty radio). - Rims factory fitted sports rim. - Seat already includes leather seats. - Comes with boot tray. - Colour left quite a few choices, I went for Sapphire blue. For moving off, I have read some tips and also observe how my dad moves off. Usually he'll open the doors for awhile to ventilate and let all the trapped air out while starting the engine. The air con isn't started yet. During that time, he does checks on his car and other stuff. After awhile, then he starts driving off slowly and after awhile then on the air con. Think i will just follow that practice as well.

Ghostami 2nd Gear August 22, 2010 Share August 22, 2010 Try not to start your car with aircon ,sound system. headlights on, it will lighten the amount of power needed for the initial start , hence removing unnecessary strain on your car when it needs to start. So far my batteries has last good 2 years plus with this rule.

Sony 1st Gear August 22, 2010 Share August 22, 2010 RTM = Read The Manual. Not joking.. but rather than hear people do their tried and error method, go and read the manual that your car come with. More then often, it will tell you how to drive, what to expect and the proper manner to do a run in. different car, different people, different manner to do run in. And don't worry too much, a car is meant to be driven.. and if u think that to rev it hard, things will fall apart, then you better be worry how this car will fall apart when u drive at high speed. So in short, just drive it as per normal.

Coltplussport Turbocharged August 22, 2010 Share August 22, 2010 Hi all, Its interesting to keep reading on as you guys share info. I am picking up on the go as I read on. So a big thanks in advance and especially to Ken4555, Furrynadz, Yuan and Trex101 for helping me out when I first posted in this forum. One of the questions I have now (believe me, I have more in my mind then this haha) is that being said that I am collecting my new vehicle - Honda Jazz 1.3(A)LX soon, it means that I have to do run-ins like everyone else. I read that it is recommended that for the first 500 to 1000km, short trips of less than 15minutes is best. But in my daily travel, I estimate that I will be: Starting at Sengkang, go down all the way to Novena to drop my partner off, then proceed to Clementi. So this entire trip will be way beyond 15 minutes. So should I take such daily trips right from the start? Or make my partner wait while I run-in short trips till after 500km or after 1000km before I start sending her down in long trips? Cause I am really worried that if the 15minute short trip is really crucial, running such long distance trip from the start will not do well for my run-in thus resulting in less lifespan for the vehicle. Please enlighten me with what you think? Pretty troubled here Another question is, for tyre pressure, what do you guys use to check it? How is it done, pardon me as I am still in the midst of reading up articles in car bible and other websites, so will be some time before I know even the basics. But am trying my best =) Hi fellow, I remember when I collect my first car 4 plus years ago, the moment it left the showroom, I stopped my car in a bus stop but forget for what already. To my horror, I get out of my car without applying parking brake and the car rolled forward. Haha, lucky manage to stop it in time. So when you collect your car, please be careful. Karebu 1st Gear August 22, 2010 Share August 22, 2010 Hi Friendstar, Yes! I know! haha. Cause I intend to drive it for long term. Thus trying to pick up as much as I can so as to ensure optimum care and maintenance. Which is troubling since they always say the "run-in" process determines engine lifespan. just drive normally. need to overtake whack dont need then cruise loh. really no point taking all the care in the world. sometimes if touch wood its a lemon car you will feel even more pekchek and wished you've whacked the accelerator. some ppl take care of their car and boom things fall apart and some ppl whack and its still running fine after a decade. in short, if you are heng you are heng, if you are suay you are suay.
