Trex101 3rd Gear August 16, 2010 Share August 16, 2010 Its called Visiblity. Only when the red dot is visible world wide, investors will be aware of its existence and more convinced abt its capabilities. Arbo U see so many countries are fighting like mad to host big events like the World Cup, Olympics etc. What visibility? The newspaper and dedicated sports channel here in Australia never even show or mention there is a Youth Olympic ongoing ....

Cerano 1st Gear August 17, 2010 Share August 17, 2010 Come on guys The benefits are intangible Besides... How much you want?? 3 meals at a hawker centre, food court or restaurant??
LoverofCar 6th Gear August 17, 2010 Share August 17, 2010 of course. look at the number of advertisers for F1. Compare that to YOG and you get the difference. You're talking about the no.1 motoring sports event in the world vs the Youth Olympics. I don't even begin to dare question the gap between them. i mean...after holding F1....Did Singapore perform differently now?
Fcw75 Hypersonic August 17, 2010 Share August 17, 2010 did it help the middle class?? is income tax also help the poor?? I see the country getting prosperous but the poor somehow still poor.... You do know that I am being sarcastic right?

Porker Turbocharged August 17, 2010 Share August 17, 2010 Intangible for now. 1) We are capable of hosting an international sporting event 2) We definitely have the funds to host it With that, it'll make Singapore an attractive proposition for foreign investments. Like I said its all intangible for now.

Duckduck Turbocharged August 17, 2010 Share August 17, 2010 (edited) if not for the amount of $ garmen throw into the event, who cares abt youth games? BTW its our tax $.... y dont they fix the farking taxi system to drive safer... educate bus drivers to drive better... its pointless to make singaporeans be interested in sports when the garmen itself doesnt create a viable income future for local sports... the garmen corporatized the education & work system here.. now they want to unwind 45 years of corporatization & get pple to be interested in low paying non-intellectual jobs? Who r they kidding? By virtue of our small population, having interest in so many sports is pointless... the garmen created the massive home price inflation, driving young pple to want to work harder to get more $ to afford that farking pigeon hole.. at the same time they want more babies... cost of education & home here so bloody high already how can anyone think of sports as a career? Epic Face Palm Wat is the farking point of sports here??? I like sports myself but will never consider a career since theres no future here for it Can TSL or NSM explain other they glorifying themselves on TV??? TangoElite 6th Gear August 17, 2010 Share August 17, 2010 We can no longer depend on our geographical location and rely on shipping as other world class ports open up along the straits of malaysia and in the region So how to survive in the international areana? Just depend on our workforce alone? I doubt so. What we can offer is an English speaking workforce, corrupt free image, safety, security, peace and accessibility. Which puts us in good position to exploit the market of international/regional meetings, conferences, expos, events, cultural exchanges, sporting competition and so on. I view this YOG as a stepping stone and a chance for Singapore to build up her resume and be the choice venue for such international meetings and conferences etc. The F1 is also a stepping stone. Just like the successful APEC in 2009, hosting Obama and providing the security. YOG is also a stepping stone. All the airshows we had held at Changi, world cyber games 2005, even the recent Singfests at fort canning, all these are stepping stones. Maybe 30 years later, who knows we will have such a strong CV, a reputable name and infrastructure that we may even host a proper Olympics, or the World Cup, or a Massive scale World Expo like the one in Beijing now. But these big namesevents are also stepping stones... The real benefits we reap are the businesses that come here for meetings, like those lawyers who came to MBS. We can make $ by hosting events, not participating in them. also. forget abt olympics as we dont have enough space & stadiums unless combine with malaysia or indo ↡ Advertisement
