Congrats to Daryl!

SINGAPORE: Singapore has won its first medal at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

Daryl Tan secured the bronze in the Boys' Under-55kg taekwondo event at the Suntec International Convention Centre.

The 17-year-old Raffles Junior College student made it to the last four after beating Myanmar's Shein Naing Dwe Shein.

But in the semis, Daryl was no match against Kaveh Rezaei of Iran, the World Junior champion.

The Iranian was in total control, winning 12-0 over three rounds in just 10 minutes.

The bronze medal was awarded to both losing semi-finalists.

btw as long as spore has nurtured a "singaporean" kid i will be proud even if it is a bronze. this is what matters most.

tell me get gold but kid was talent scouted from this country and that country from young... it is a disgrace... i don't need a gold like that.... worthless crap to me

Just imagine you are in his position: I have won a medal in YOG which held in the first time.

Definitely this is something I can boost of to my children/grandchildren in the future.

Well Done!!!

The reward for Gold is 1 mil, silver should be 500k, bronze is 250k for Olympic, but not sure YOG is it same rate.

But smelly smelly can drive a convertible to school with the prize $$$ and say, "Nope not by my dad, I earn it."

He will go down in history just like our Mr Tan Howe Liang who won the silver medal for the weightlifting in the Olympics many years back! [laugh]
