Hi Bros,

Any recommendations for an all-rounder tyre?

- Good grip in wet/dry condition

- Quiet

I have been using Bridgestone tyres for previous car and stock for my current Altis. Changed to Yokohama DB when hit 60k. Now after 40k, the tyres are going botak soon. Also, the grip in wet weather is not too good. When car go past puddle of water, can feel losing control even driving only at 40kph. Want to get something with good grip since got baby on board...

Thanks!

Best bang for bucks, Kumho KU31 or KU36 (performance) and Federal SS or RSR (performance). The price of these are unbeatable for the performance you're getting.

Also, you'll need to be more specific on the model. Every brand's got their own good and bad range of tyres. You cannot say a brand is bad because you've gone for one of the cheapest option in that range (just because you want a "branded" tyre).

I'm not very experienced with a lot of tyres but my current Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 285/30/18 are good but serious, I dont think they're worth the money. These are retailed for around 800 each in Aus and for the same price and slightly more, I can get a full set of 265/35/18 KU36 (around 1100 all up).

Factors to think about when buying tyres, Price, Grip, Wear and Noise. Like I have mentioned earlier. Go Feds SS or KU31 is you're driving a quiet family car and Feds RSR or KU36 if you're driving something loud (that way you wouldnt even know if the tyres are noisy).

I cant even hear my own tyres on my former wheels but when I sold them to my friend, he tells me they're noisy (some random cheena brand).

Dry grip is probably more important than wet because if the tyre is of decent quality (shouldnt aero that easily), the difference isnt THAT great. If you're doing stupid things in the wet, dont expect ANY tyres to grip. An example is turning. I was just making a left turn at the lights when the floor's wet (just finished rainning) and I decided to test how grippy my tyres are by stepping harder on the accelerator. Guess what? Even with my AWD, my rear wheel skidded.

Which is why I said any decent tyres will do. I find it very ignorant when someone say something like "oh michelin is good, continental is crap." That is not true. You're not even comparing apples with apples. Some models are comparable like the 2 which I have provided. I'm not very experienced with other brands but the KU31s are something a little inferior than the Bridgestone Adrenalin 001 but at a much cheaper price tag.

Remember when choosing your tyres, you're not buying the brand. True some brands might have a better range of performing tyres but doesnt make everything from that brand good.

[laugh] [laugh] if u read back my posts i do agree that all brands have their gd and bad models just like TS he mentioned earlier that he's using yoko's aspec DB. its a comfort tyre one of the quietest ever, by omg i skidded thrice in 2 days on that very set.

michelin vs. conti of rather lets say, CSC3 vs. PP3. thats a rather fair comparison isnt it?

for re001 y own personal experience is that it rocks. :D i changed it away from stock B250s. both bridegestone tyres but different range.

my other vehicle is on goodyear GSD3 wet grip awesome. dry not too bad but noise. i would say one of the noisest ever! and also previous set of NCT5. grip so so.. but noise much much quieter.

this is why i say want grip = no comfort. want comfort = no grip.

i always find goodyear LS2000 hybrid2 a good blend of wet/dry grip and low noise. Made in Japan too. Not too ex.

A good tyre should not be too wide because of aquaplaning in wet weather. So a 195 to 215 is good enough.
