Kangadrool Supersonic November 15, 2010 Share November 15, 2010 Timing chain is supposed to be more lasting/robust than timing belt. How long can a typical timing chain last? Has anyone seen a snapped timing chain before (operated under normal driving condition)? Just curious, why aren't all cars fitted with timing chain rather than belt? Is there any reason behind? Timing chain will slacken over time. Hence, there is a tensioner pushing it against a guide on the chain. The tensioner will kaput also = requiring replacement. Chain is more hardy than belt, but can break also including all the popular Japenis makes.
