Tubecreamer Neutral Newbie August 13, 2010 Author Share August 13, 2010 actually my logic is simple but dunno reality will work or not. Car price bot was 43k. at that time forte was 49k. i took a 39K loan. now repaid $8k. Left $31k. I can stomach a 6-9k top up but no more. am i being over optimistic
Verve 1st Gear August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 bro i dun mean to sound hurtful but rather to paint the picture as it is. maybe my assumption is wrong and i hope it is. we bread and butter car owners are not like elite, where 10k is like 10 cents, so do think thru. also the cerato will depreciate more when you want to change car again, so thats extra cost later on. unless u can drive this car for 9 years just some thoughts
Tubecreamer Neutral Newbie August 13, 2010 Author Share August 13, 2010 i understand. thanks. think i need to wake up my idea. at most 3 more yrs then change car hor. knnz, the reality of life
Tt_hh 2nd Gear August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 bro i will be getting a 2nd hand 1 year old forte too, not a brand new one.. THIS IS THE BEST OPTION....vios interior is a joke.... only the brand name niah....
Metalbone Clutched August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 If you got the money to spare for the top up, then why not? U only live once so dun regret.
Porche 5th Gear August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 change a better car can understand, change forte.....i think yours vios should be better
Summer69 Clutched August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 Forte body value in 5 years time will be very pathetic. In fact, this is true for all Korean car. just ask those who ever owned elantra, sonata, matrix, excel etc. before. if you buy Forte, be prepared to drive all the way or lose $$$ heavily if want to sell early. In fact, look around, how many older generation Korean car going into their 7th, 8th, 9th or greater yrs? only a handful, maybe the Sonata Taxi may be able to make it to 10th year. Let's see if Avante police car can last to 10th year, like their previous G8 corolla model.
Vhtfhwlego Supercharged August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 Actually it is because I was deciding btw Forte and Vios at that time. In e end, I chose Vios for the practical reasons. Like I do sales, need to travel 70%of the time (I clock abt 50-90km a day), n easy maintainance. Then as i drive along, i do regret a bit that i din get the Forte. Then I thot, I only live life once and the COE price when I bot my vios was 5,001- quite gd. So I am deciding whether to just hack it an buy the Forte now. what will u do Your mileage so low comparing with my ex-ride clocking 45K per year last me till Odometer 250,000km in a 04 Honda Fit. Faulty Gearbox since year 1 till end and all friends said to me upgrade la... I refuse till after 6 years. Currently upgraded to a 2.3T car doing 30k per year even I stay 2km from office. Stick with your " practical " reasons otherwise you are the most in-practial person as MIJ vs MIK Cat A to Cat A have no difference. Unless you really upgrade to a VW or other branded conti cars then consider upgrades in Cat A.
Karilaksa Neutral Newbie August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 I know... practical side of me says keep it. But I only live life once. So if a gd deal comes along, I may heck it and get the forte sorry...may i ask how old are you? "u only live once" is not an excuse for this decision unless u are past ur 50's now. "u only live once" is not an excuse for this decision unless u are past ur 50's now. but i think mostly those under 30' will use that excuse .... spend money like no tomorrow.... those above 50's i know normaly wont waste $ like that.... Piyopico Supercharged August 13, 2010 Share August 13, 2010 Hi i just called up a few dealers. I wish to trade in my Jun-2009 Vios J for a Kia Cerato Forte. He quoted me 45k for my vios and 51k for the forte. If I take it up, can someone help me: 1) How much must I top up? 2) What will my new monthly loan be? Bro, drop the idea la. I dun mean to be rude, but change from Vios to Forte is waste time la. What difference are you talking about? Set your sights higher and change to a BMW or Merc. Then there will be a DIFFERENCE. That would mean realising a dream. Keep your cash for a rainy day. The financial turmoil an't over yet. It will get worse.

Mcf777 Turbocharged August 15, 2010 Share August 15, 2010 since u kept saying u only live once, then get a better car. why still stay in the same category? At least upgrade to a 2.0litre Camry/Accord or get a VW 1.4 TSI Golf
Atossg Neutral Newbie August 15, 2010 Share August 15, 2010 Bro, keep your Vios. Don't just use "I only live once" as a reason/excuse to change car. I used to drive a brand new Vios, but couple of years down the road, got a double whammy in the health department - diagnose with brain tumor and liver cirrhosis. Medical bills were sky high in the initial months. I made a cut throat decision to sell off my private property and sold off the Vios in exchange for a 7.5yr old Mazda 323. Things are already under control and I'm still working. Car is currently due for change in a couple of months (10yrs almost up). With my kind of condition, shouldn't I then also say - I only live once - and do a major upgrade? But I still need to think for my wife and parents. If things were to go the other way again, I would want them to live comfortably still. In S'pore, car is a depreciating asset. Unless you have $ to burn, try not to spend too much on it. Something mainstream that will not break down will be good. For me, still on the lookout for another 7yr old one to buy :) Just my 2 cents worth .
