Was using the K&N drop in filter... and i had heard abt that over oil will damage the MAF sensor..

I was wondering what is the effect on the car and drive if the MAF sensor was spoilt...

I had recently clean the filter...but after that... i notice that my engine was very easy to ram.. abit on the accelarotor... the engine just go howling... nvr had this problem last time with K&N and my previous car...

MAF sensor spoilt, will the car give any warning signal or warning light?

If you clean and oil according to the instructions provided in the cleaning kit, then there should be no cause for concern/alarm.

Irregular idling would be one of the more common symptoms of MAF clogging or dirty throttle body. Sometime irregular idling can also be faulty engine mounts.

knn drop in is more free flowing, so being more free revving should be a good thing! it shd not be considered a problem. btw, where you go to buy the drop in filter. i also wanna buy and try.

Just clean the MAF sensor once in a while. Contact cleaner, carb cleaner etc all works.

MAF used today is just a heated thin film wire (like those thin ribbon cables used in electronic stuffs). Air flowing thru it will cool the wire and register different resistance. Hence the ECU rely on this to check the amt of air flow.

If oil is coated on the film, it will act as an insulation and the car may have erratic idle because of wrong amt of fuel injected. Its extremely unlikely for the oil to damage the sensor in anyway because the oil will not react with the plastic film.

Mine uses MAP as well, thus no problems with oil!

Actually, how do we know what cars use MAP and those that use MAF?

I am curious about it..... [:)]

i had experience before.

the rpm just couldn't climb up no matter how much gas you step and the engine felt like dying and keep jerking(max speed about 20-30km/hr).

alot of black smoke came out of the exhaust and CEL will light up.

and i had to spent about $500 for a new MAF sensor.

Cos of the oil coated on the MAF?

according to info form website... sometime it not the MAF faulty.. just dirty..

dirty can be due to many factors and not just due to K&N drop-in filter. [laugh]

some workshop just change the MAF sensor.. while good one will do the cleaning first before changing...

just like my friend.. go AD due to aircon problem... say change cooling coil.. and also the aircon motor..

but outside... only change cooling coil and ONLY the bearing on the aircon motor...

this save him $1500...
