Echelon 3rd Gear August 6, 2010 Share August 6, 2010 My ride reached 145,000 km this week after 4 years. I have been very happy and satisfied with my ride. In the last two months, I had to change engine oil twice as my engine was found to be empty without oil!? Going to a local service center they did not find this problem and also one of my fans were breaking down. I spent some couple of hundreds changing some parts that did not solve the problem but just a band-aid over the problems. Driving awhile more, I found the problem arising again, wanting a second opinion I sort out our resident guru Koolaba bro and he recommended me Aldan Motor Service Pte Ltd - they service alot of Skoda cabbies, so the experience is there and have all the VAG kits and tools. Went there for a quote for the items I wanted, and fair enough price, accepted it and sent it to get it serviced. 3 hrs later got a call from the owner to say he found my engine oil completed gone and was shocked as it dose not evaporate, told me he further investigated it and found the gasket of the engine broken. He recommended me to change it as it will spoil the vehicle if I do not. With that I said yes, went to the work shop to take a look and found my main engine covers off to reveal the pistons and other parts and showed me the broken gaskets and seams. Wow why didn't the previous person find this out. Got my ride back today and it is purring again, with the changed engine mounts, my ride is also quieter and feels like no more vibrations, got new engine oil, transmission oil changed, new radiator fan, expansion tank, drive shaft cover, oil filter, coolants, valve cover gasket..etc. Worth every penny, ride feels great, (like new feeling) Just wanted to share my experience. ↡ Advertisement

Koolaba 1st Gear August 11, 2010 Share August 11, 2010 Beano, If you are still sending your ride to Servotronic for maintenance, I strongly encourage you to go to Aldan. Fairer price aside, the level of expertise is much better than HA's. HA could only offer piece-meal solution when our CEL indication emerged 2 months back - resetting the fault code and observe if there is a re-occurrence of the CEL illumination. HA even recommended to change the entire ECU which is worth at least 2 grand (after the warranty has expired). With the VAS 5052 readout, Aldan diagnosed it to be worn vacuum pipings and valves, which have shifted the oxygen:fuel ratio to sub-optimal levels (thus causing the CEL to illuminate). The ride became sluggish. The total damage was around $800, including the replacement of ageing radiator tank (which showed signs of cracking at the filler neck), radiator overflow hose. Beanoyip Turbocharged August 11, 2010 Share August 11, 2010 Nope, I've long stopped going to Servo. Nowadays i go to Ah Kee to rectify any mechanical issues. Btw, where can i change my door lock solenoid?
Koolaba 1st Gear August 11, 2010 Share August 11, 2010 Ah Kee has the expertise to perform mechanical repairs. However, his tools do not support ATF flush. If I did not recall wrongly, he has a OBDB scanner which can pick up fault codes & reset the error codes. However the set will not be able to perform any settings. 2 options for you to consider pertaining to the solenoid: 1. Approach stockists e.g. Trans Hua / Kian Nua / XZ to check for the price of the affected solenoid. Get Ah Kee to quote the labour charge to change the solenoid. 2. Get Daniel of Aldan to provide a quote for the parts & labour Choose the cheaper option.
Beanoyip Turbocharged August 26, 2010 Share August 26, 2010 I visited Aldan yesterday to have my ATF changed and door lock replaced. The amount was reasonable. Besides that, the day before i ran over a huge rock which badly scuffed my under carriage and Daniel inspected that my oil sump was badly dented. Fortunately there was no leak and he advised me to leave it for now. He also secured a plastic cover that was broken without cost. Great service overall by Aldan, I'll definitely go back for future servicing and to rectify any issues.

Koolaba 1st Gear September 6, 2010 Share September 6, 2010 Ah Kee for oil change & mechanical jobs without requiring VAG.COM diagnostics. Aldan for services which requires VAG.COM diagnostics & ATF change.

Simpleman 1st Gear November 7, 2010 Share November 7, 2010 My 5-yr old Octy was towed to Aldan last Sat. Coolant was leaky. An efficient troubleshoot found the problem within minutes: broken hose, much to my relief. Had thought it might had been a bigger - more costly - problem. This was my first visit there. Though further from home, and much less convenient, would return at the next maintenance cycle.

Just curious if you can share with us:- Changed engine oil twice when it was empty? How did you know it was empty? Why not top-up instead? Can share with us which country did you find this Aldan Motors, if it is not local? How many fans you got in your car breaking down? Were you taken for a ride? I wonder if the gasket was broken during investigation? Why changed engine mounts when gasket broken? Why changed transmission oil? Why new drive shaft cover? The first sentence does not tally with the second last paragraph, like you are advertising for Aldan Motors I hope there is some discrepancies among the facts (I am glad that you are happy) Edited November 10, 2010 by Good-Carbuyer
Othello Supersonic November 11, 2010 Share November 11, 2010 Hi Guys, Im new on this forum...currently im sending my car to servo for servicing..should i change to a newer workshop? pls advise yes, pls do so ..... you may choose to just drive down to ALDAN to get a feel of their service level. Or just do a simple oil change with them, and then decide whether they deserve ur business..... i bet you will not step foot in Sin Ming again. ↡ Advertisement
