Anti-speeding camera puzzle

THE Traffic Police have installed numerous speed cameras across the island. I refer to the one on the East Coast Parkway, near the Benjamin Sheares Bridge.

At the bottom of the bridge (in the downward ramp) towards the direction of Changi Airport, the speed limit is 70kmh. Yet vehicles always exceed the limit, some going as fast as 90kmh to 100kmh. This is because they notice that the speed camera focuses on one direction, that of the opposite direction (from Changi Airport). So many believe it is safe to speed on this side of the expressway.

I am curious why this is so when there are other cameras that are trained on both directions of other expressways, thus forcing motorists to conform to the authorised speed limit.

keep away from lane 1 if you not confident of keeping you vehicle in lane. I know there is a concrete barrier on the right side. Stop driving in between lane 1 and 2, you are hogging 2 lanes at the same time! [furious]

Refresher driving lessons more practical?

Changing the mindset is more important, ie there is always someone else faster than you and you should give way if you are on lane 1.

Just look at one of the threads started on why drivers here are like F1 drivers, the TS rather speed up rather than giving way and started complaining about other pple going too fast when it is about his ego at stake.

BTW, it is not only on this stretch of road, but many other places as well such as PIE exit to ECP etc where I see many drivers not able to handle their car well round the outer bends.

Neutral Newbie

2 mths ago i was in lane 2 on sheares bridge, while a white mercedes taxi was in lane 1. I always try hard to stick within my lane becos (for some strange reason) my natural tendency is to veer closer to the left. This stupid merz taxi driver buay zai, scared of hitting barrier, so eat into lane 2, and then still dared to horn me for being close to him!!! i was damn mad, and raced him all the way to NUH on AYE....and i actually won with my korean car. =P (i guess maybe his passenger told him not to speed....no way a mercedes can lose to korean car, rite?)

For the downslope I usually filter to 2nd lane and let it row all the way.

Rather travel slightly slower than having to jam brake.

It's so bloody dangerous, once I had a lady driver brake till 60-70 from 100-110.

Almost buay hu brake. Sigh...

Would it be better that you report him to the Authority instead of endangering yourself and other road users while you race with him?

If still in doubt, and without budget constrain, can consider hiring driver instead for the driving stress
