Smhomie Clutched August 11, 2010 Share August 11, 2010 (edited) Rule of thumb as I know is that any part of the car that is non-OEM would be voided in part, not as a whole. Read the warranty terms, it should be stated. If not stated, it is to be construed as grey area or ambiguous. This you can fight it out. Unfortunately, we consumers take on a risk here with little protection unlike in US where The Magnusson Moss Warranty Act empowers the affected consumer to be entitled to make claim on any/all warrantied parts unless proven otherwise by the vendor. I don't subscribe to "I know the service manager and he says ok" theory. This is not based on product representation, its based on personal repute. Many cars do change out their head units after collecting car, so this voids the whole car or voids only the head unit console section + wiring harness? Can agent void entirety of the subject car assuming tyres/batteries/windscreen fluid/air-con filter/foglights are non-OEM? Technically no, but yes for those affected parts. Personally I feel all car agents should use LTA modification guidelines as a basis for their warranty terms (if they are lazy). This would be more equitable and consumer minded. Besides, the only part I know about voiding warranty is when customer do not stick to the service intervals as prescribed in their owners' servicing manual. Warranty for 5 years or unlimited mileage offered by most are rather misleading on most part. If parts are free, labour is not, vice versa. Miss two consecutive services, your car is "voided". What rubbish! Voiding warranty in simplest terms means to refuse any form of repair or replacement to the article (in part or whole) even if the article originates from them. In this instance, it is the right to refuse service and parts from car manufacturers. Edited August 11, 2010 by Smhomie

Well, the issue of "if I continue to let them service my car, my car's warranty will be kept/honoured" has continued to maintain the servicing business of ADs as many car consumers would send their rides back to the AD workshops. Form of revenue for ADs. And it is a good time that when one buys something, he or she is advisable to read the manual. Same goes for cars. A lot of car manuals do state that only certain parts like engine, aircon compressor, gearbox etc are warranted. But it may not be the same with wear and tear parts. ↡ Advertisement
