Krazz77 Neutral Newbie July 27, 2010 Author Share July 27, 2010 i like this idea... u do a convert or using dc power?? what's ur batt capacity? PC boards uses DC-12V, so it's matching to car power supply. What you do need is a custom dc-regulated car power supply. These power supplies will detect your car ignition off and hibernates the PC when you off your car engine. The power supply will cut off totally in 1hour cosuming 0 amp. For those of you worrying that the PC will drain your battey, I have not had a flat battery problem in the 3 years I had my car PC. If you are using laptops.. that's a whole different ball game on the power supply front. I will discuss these more in detail in the sgsoundsystem thread. Do follow! ↡ Advertisement
Parkingidiot 1st Gear July 27, 2010 Share July 27, 2010 So now if the PC get blue screen... you need to off engine.. wind down all the Windows.. and reboot the car...
Weewee1976 3rd Gear July 27, 2010 Share July 27, 2010 Very impressive I would say. A few questions: 1. How long does it take to start up WinXP and launch the media player? 2. When you switch off the ignition, does it shut down properly and automatically? 3. If I want to listen to a music CD or play a DVD, where can I insert the disc? 4. Does it have a remote control function for rear passengers? 5. Does the reverse camera come out automatically when reverse gear is engaged?

Krazz77 Neutral Newbie July 27, 2010 Author Share July 27, 2010 (edited) So now if the PC get blue screen... you need to off engine.. wind down all the Windows.. and reboot the car... Good question and very valid!! Windows do get blue screen! There's a reset button one lah. 2 ways - wire a reset button to the dashboard - or like me, place pc under seat. Anything, just press reset lo. Edited July 27, 2010 by Krazz77
Kwchan 1st Gear July 27, 2010 Share July 27, 2010 (edited) bro, well done man! i have same idea 3 years back. but my lancer is only 1 din. try mod it to 2 din, but C&C don't supply 2 din to me. can get 1 din monitor from china, too dim on sunny day. found a space between air blower and coil box. enough for my used notebook. plan to take out the mainboard and fix there. WTS my CarPC parts, Any takers? I have 1 set of Car PC with 1DIN retractable 7" LCD touchscreen, motherboard with Pentium M 1.7Ghz (much faster than Atom) and a very good 320W ATX power supply unit specially for Car use. All bought from US last time but give up on this project already, so never get to install them into my ride. You just need to buy a mITX casing and a mini wireless keyboard from sim lim to complete your setup Edited July 27, 2010 by Kwchan

How long does it take to start up WinXP and launch the media player? [Answer] Typically less than 1 min. Cos we hibernate. 2. When you switch off the ignition, does it shut down properly and automatically? [Answer] With the purpose-built car power supply, it will shut down with ignition key off and vice versa for the turn on. 3. If I want to listen to a music CD or play a DVD, where can I insert the disc? [Answer] With 160GB, you seriously want CD? But you can plug in a external CD-ROM. 4. Does it have a remote control function for rear passengers? [Answer] Just buy a infra-red remote control (sim lim got plenty)and put the receiver in range lo. Mouse and keyboard use wireless lo. 5. Does the reverse camera come out automatically when reverse gear is engaged? [Answer] Yes. Better VGA touch screen have built in AV switch capability. Mine does. Follow my sgsoundsystem thread and you'll have more answers.

Do you intend to use the Ipad as the main system? How to turn off and on with the car ignition? The OS does not matter actually. I'm using a frontend software called centrafuse. Highly recommended to buy! But there's also an alternative SW callled Riderunner. Go google, you'll find out more.

Permanent mounting is only a magnet for thefts. I don't use any frontend at all as i think the setup is a hassle. On PC, play songs using WM, switch to Mapking... I have also integrated fusioncontrol box with my Steering wheel.. Oh yah... lastly, i got to think of a way to waterproof my casing incase kenna flood cuz my cpu is in my spare tyre area... haha.. I did post to mp3car before but have to say SG car pc community is pretty small. ↡ Advertisement
