Albeniz Turbocharged July 17, 2010 Share July 17, 2010 Folks, I have been getting runny nose more frequently recently. Thinking it might be due to the air quality at home. I am contemplating of getting an air purifier for my room. Does it really work? Do share your experience. Would the cheaper ones work too?

Would the cheaper ones work too? you can have mine.... i'm sick of maintaining it http://www.hunterair.com/hunter-air-purifiers.php 1) get one with hepa filter(or issit true hepa?) 2) get one with high watts so that the fan is strong enough to suck in more air in the hse 3) get one which has value for money and readily available filters(bcos the filter life i think is just one year) the one i bought is really value for money but still i'm sick of cleaning the filters Edited July 17, 2010 by Blackwind

Would the cheaper ones work too? not sure if cheap models will work, i dont sell air purifiers but from my research a True Hepa filter filter is a Must along with high air cfm type i think those "quiet" with no fan type dont work imo coz if u wanna circulate the air fast, u gotta have those with a powerful fan.. i'm using the local brand maier... quite ok i think...i see many ppl in other forums recommend Honeywell, but price quite steep and quite noisy (due to a powerful fan) hope this helps

Albeniz Turbocharged July 17, 2010 Share July 17, 2010 (edited) Other than the usual shops such as Harvey Norman, Best Denki and Courts, are there any other shops where we could get value-for-money air purifiers? Blackwind Neutral Newbie July 17, 2010 Share July 17, 2010 (edited) Care to elaborate on the maintenance efforts required? maintenance wise you can look at the link provided in my earlier post. they will tell you how frequently you need to change the filter so just follow lor.... check out the price for the filters but ontop of that i also vacuum my first layer of carbon filter every week cos after a few days it will become damn dirty(this is what i'm sick of the most... plus ofcourse the hassle of changing filters once the filter life ends). thats it for maintenance.... SimonTan 2nd Gear July 17, 2010 Share July 17, 2010 Do you guys use the filter in an enclosed room, like air com room? Or in a room with windows open and doors open? I always thought it's only works in a confined space. A well circulated open room is like 'wasting' the filter as the cleaned air from the outlet of filter will leave the room and replaced by dirty outside air continuously. GoodCar 4th Gear July 17, 2010 Share July 17, 2010 I am using the Sharp Air Purifier with Humidifying function. THere is no need to use humidifier in Singapore. Too humid here. The aircon helps lower the temperature and humidity to make us feel good, so it will only waste energy to use humidifier in aircon room

For me, I use to get sore throat often when sleeping in aircon room. But after using the Sharp one, I never get sore throat much.
