Wind30 Turbocharged July 14, 2010 Share July 14, 2010 kind of curious. Asian economies are raising interest rates recently while US Fed just mentioned that recovery is flatering so US probably will not raise interest rates. What is our local Sibor rate affected mostly by? US rates or local rates? ↡ Advertisement
Chewbacca 1st Gear July 15, 2010 Share July 15, 2010 Most often, Sibor is used to control the growth and liquidity of a market. But to say that it depends solely on this or that is an oversimplification. In short: idunnolol
Little_prince Supersonic July 15, 2010 Share July 15, 2010 Sibor also gives a rough indication of where deposit and savings account rates at banks might be headed, as it is influenced partly by the supply and demand for funds in the Singapore interbank market. When Sibor is low, it is cheaper for foreign banks, which have a smaller deposit base than local ones do, to borrow funds from the interbank market for their lending activities. When this happens, the foreign banks are less likely to offer higher fixed deposit rates to attract Singaporeans to park cash with them. But when liquidity in the market is tight and interbank rates rise, local banks will offer more attractive rates to convince Singapore savers not to switch to foreign rivals http://www.asiaone.com/Business/My%2BMoney...0408-58704.html

Mingjie Neutral Newbie January 3, 2012 Share January 3, 2012 Old thread, but interesting question, given that it's uncertain whether the current low rates will sustain moving into 2012. Found this online, may provide some info: what affects interest rates: http://singaporesiborwatch.com/singaporesi...s-in-singapore/ current sibor rates: http://singaporesiborwatch.com/singapore-s...nt-sibor-rates/ ↡ Advertisement
