some stupid people or parents like to swing baby up and down to make them laugh...this is the most stupid act which may cause harm to the baby....,whenever i see my relative or friend doing that to babies...i will f*** them immediately......

They are not stupid per se.. probably just ignorant of the dangers of swinging the baby. It's not like they are doing it maliciously la.. Before this case, i also didn't know about the shaken baby syndrome and its dangers.. [:/] Heard of a case from my colleague whereby this parent swung the baby up and the baby's spinal cord got damaged or something. Caused serious damage to the poor kid.. [:(]

yea.. i think gentle slow motions or swinging the baby in the cradle should be fine.. not like shaking the baby violently like that poor dude who accidentally killed his daughter..

dont blame the father, no parent in the world would want to kill his/her flesh and blood. read that he cant afford a baby cot plus i guess he is low income earner whom is still renting HDB.

i can imagine the stress of not having a regular income and needing to feed a young baby

i think should help the wife who has to cope with handling another daughter alone with him behind bars.

no everyone is as fortunate to have a good job and education.

Stupidity stops being an excuse when a person is old enough to think.

Do you have kids of your own by the way?

Just have to make sure the infant's head is well-supported in the cradle or cot. Cos it's the neck that is still weak.

Talking about violent swinging, generations of babies were put in the old-style 'bounce up-and-down' spring-suspended sarong cradle. Not much harm done, luckily [rolleyes]

You're the dumb one actually. Motion is good for them. It is the sudden acceleration/deceleration that is harmful.

Did I say motion is bad for the baby? ...I mean they swing them up and down which put them like in a viking action....will cause them harm.....BTW....please be polite in your reply...if not...don't bother to reply to me...Thanks

That's true, generally have to wait until the baby can hold its head up firmly before you can do such swings.

In general though, I observe westerners are more 'rough' when playing with their kids, i.e. swing them round and round, hold them upside down, etc. Can be good and bad.

Very true. Need to read between the lines of the article.

Basically, lack of money is the root of many problems/tragedies. Got lots of money, all sorts of problems can be solved :D

the main issue is not only about the neck.

its that volently shaking a new born (in fact anyone) will cause the brain to collide with the skull and hence causes brain damage.

I think no one needs to be a father to know that shaking your child violently, or even with any amount of force is not gonna be good for the baby.

He might as well shot the baby in the head to keep it quiet. The result would've been the same, albeit bloodier.

Anyone can criticize the poor guy - but it is matter of losing control.

Are they really parents themselves?

Imagine you have a really irritable baby and you have had a really bad day or lack of sleep because the baby has been crying non-stop. Nobody to help because they are away/working/sick/etc. All the factors may affect reasoning/judgement and then the guy just loses his head. Big time.

I'm sure many parents have gone through tough times with their kids. In the worst cases, thinking of throwing the baby out of the window (I've heard this from a woman) or anything equally bad. Nobody is perfect.

I think he has suffered enough already. Pray for him.

I feel it is a sad case for both the father and daughter. The father probably didn't know how to managed his emotion and also ignorant of the kind of damages he had caused by swinging the baby very, very hard. It is unfortunate that this ended up in tragedy....which I feel the father probably didn't expect, in his wildest dream, that it will happen.

I can understand the frustration and helplessness when you are a new parent, trying to rock the crying baby to sleep. I went thru that with my 1st born. Both my wife and I felt really frustrated at times...probably cos of lack of sleep, tiredness, not knowing what the baby really want (tried everything from nursing it, rub this/her tummy to remove gas, burping, fresh diaper, etc.....), etc.

An unemployed man has been sentenced to a two-year jail term for causing the death of his two-month-old daughter by violently rocking her.

http://sg.yfittopostblog.com/2010/07/12/ma...ng-babys-death/

The Court heard that Devagirii, 30, violently shook the infant forcefully for 10 to 15 minutes as he was frustrated that she was crying and would not go to sleep.

The incident happened at his rented flat at York Hill on June 10 last year after his wife, Ms Saraswathi Subramaniam, 22, had left for work.

His wife noticed the baby behaving strangely when she tried to feed her, and brought the baby to the hospital. She then died in the Children

Imagine I had the worst time with my 3rd kid on 1 particular day (she was about 3 months old only) when I was home and my wife was at work.

Somehow her temperament was so much worse than my other 2 kids.

I had to leave her to cry until I couldn't take it and I started yelling at myself.

Almost went crazy.

It happens to all of us [;)]
