Hi all,

Is DIY soundproofing an easy task to accomplish for layman?

I also wonder how to get things done, such as:

1. Sound proof materials selection,

2. Where and which part to do sound proof to reap the highest benefit? (Floor pan, firewall, engine bay?)

Overall, does it save a pile for DIY if got free time?

What are the tools and other things to prepare/look out for during a DIY session?

Please comment and Thank you very much.

Regards,

Oh yes, you can sound proof yourself and its much cheaper than getting workshop to do it. Sound proof mats, foam mats and even spray cans to fill up empty spaces are available. You just need to buy them. But don't expect it to be a one day job.......Its very time consuming.

You can also buy epoxy putty to strengthen the frame. This reduces flexing and also recues craking noise.

Supersonic

I diy SP.

It's a individual learning process. You start by reading up and buying the materials, damping, sound absorbing etc.

Took me over a month to do slowly. You need tools to open up doors, remove carpet, etc. You might break clips here and there.

I also found doing double layer door seal is very effective, if your car does not already have a 2nd layer of seal.

Each car is different. Some has more, some less factory SP. So you need to decide where there are enough oe SP and where to augment where there is not.

DIY is time consuming and tiring, depending on how good you want to do it or rush through.

You can take your time, just doing 1 door one week and moving on to the next part and so on.
