Hi all.

Im thinking of flushing my old brake fluid.

Presently using Dot 3. Is it ok to change to Dot 4 or 5?

Wil it cause any problems?

Thanks.

use to high boiling point you wont get ur brakes effective..

coz the higher boling point means ur caliper and pads need to be those that can generate more heat. 6pots callipers or bigger. Coz they produce alot of heat. using dot 3 or 4 will cause the brake to feel fade when push.

tried on my bike before using dot 5 or 6 i cant recall with normal calipers... tried to do hard braking the brakes dont just bites...take a while before the bites comes in..

again i might be wrong...

Yes, I think you are indeed wrong. [laugh]

If the brake fluid has a low boiling temp, your brakes will fade/cook/fail early. For e.g your brakes with low boiling temp brake fluid won't last you the entire downhill of Genting. You will need to stop and let the brake fluid cool down before you continue.

You are actually talking about high temp brake pads. Don't confuse it with brake fluid with high boiling temp. For brake fluid, the higher the better. For brake pads, it's subjective to individual preference.

Then again, I might be wrong too [laugh]

If u are using stock caliper, Dot 4 is more then enuff. Even for my 4 pot i am also using Dot 4 only. 5.1 is more for track use.

What about dot 5.1? Read somewhere it was not recommended. True?

Dot 4 is good enough. Change it annually to remove the moisture from the fluid.

No need for Dot 5.

You are right and not wrong.

Supersonic

Use a good DOT 4 like ATE Super Blue or Castrol LMA. They are slower to absorb water.

Water lowers the boiling point.

The faster it absorb water, the worse the boiling point becomes.

It doesn't mean 5.1 is the best, although it may have started off with the highest boiling point.

I got it done recently. Dot 4 is good enough. One bottle cost around $10 or less depending on brand.

Sorry. I got it from clubhyundai group buy.

That guy only brought in some from his source.

Not easy to find Super Blue nowadays, coz mostly they sell the normal ATE SL.

The last time I saw it was at Torino, AMK. 5022 Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 #01-09, +65 64824496; but not sure if they have it now.

I went to Torino last Sat.

No more ATE so I bought TRW at $6 for 0.6l Dot 4.

The Uncle recommended Ferrado at $15 for 1l Dot 5.1
