Yeobh 4th Gear June 23, 2010 Share June 23, 2010 (edited) As one who use to DIY my own cars back in the 80's , washing greas/oily hand takes lot of time and detergent. No wonder in large workshops managements are very strict on mechanics check out time before lunch and when the day ends. Yeobh 4th Gear June 23, 2010 Author Share June 23, 2010 Just for general discussions, on time usage and cost and possible long term hand skin problems. I have come across mechs who have skin and other body problems due to poor personal hygiene. Many are still expose to auto combustion by-products without knowing the long term consequence. Yeobh 4th Gear June 26, 2010 Author Share June 26, 2010 That's right, many mechs during the pre 1980 "love " to smell the exhaust to confirm that they have tune the carb correctly. If you have the chance try to take the Carbon Monoxide reading in most small shops offices you will be shock at the level of CO. Overtime most of the staff try to overcome the headache by reducing the room temp which will not help at all.
Kelpie 2nd Gear June 27, 2010 Share June 27, 2010 Especially those changing asbastos brakes from the 80s and 90s. I heard it causes lungs to collaspe. That was when the idea of commecializing the electric and hydrogen cars kicked-off. Servicing a green car is certainly going to help the mechanics' health to a certain extent .
